[ Chapter 3 || Beast Beneath the Moonlight ]

Amidst the darkness of the night, the sky was adorned with a mesmerizing display of twinkling stars. The only sound that could be heard was the gentle rustling of leaves in the wind, creating a serene ambiance. The setting was ideal for stargazing, providing a peaceful and tranquil backdrop for the night's events. Atsushi and [Y/n] were led to a secluded warehouse by Dazai, with the intention of drawing out the beast.

Atsushi was seated cross-legged on a crate next to [Y/n], who had her back leaning against the warehouse wall. He held his legs close to his chest while Dazai read from a red and white book with the words "The Complete Suicide" inscribed on the cover, perched precariously on a different crate with his legs hanging over the edge

Inside the warehouse, the darkness was palpable, only the occasional creaking of the old building breaking the eerie silence. Dazai continued to read, his breathing barely audible above the soft rustling of pages. Atsushi shifted slightly, his eyes scanning the inky blackness, his mind filled with uncertainty about what they might find in this abandoned space. "Dazai-san, what are you reading?"

"A good book." Said man replied by turning a page. "I'm surprised you can read when it's dark." When Dazai spoke, Atsushi's sweat dropped as he craned his head to get a better look at him. "I have good vision. Besides, I already know everything that happens in this book." he said. "He doesn't need to see the words to understand what the book is saying." With her hands crossed over her chest and her eyes closed, [Y/n] spoke calmly. Atsushi made an uneasy smile. "Why are you reading it, then?"

"A good book is always good, no matter how many times you read it." With his chin resting on his knees, Atsushi sighed. His nerves just seemed to eat away at him no matter what he did. "Will the tiger really show up here?" "It will." Atsushi gasped as fear started coursing through him. "Don't worry. Even if it shows up, it's no match for me. I may not look like much, but i am an operative of the Armed Detective Agency."

"We're not afraid," said the nonchalant female, stepping forward. "We'll help you, and together we can do it. You're in good hands." The boy looked at her, surprised, but then nodded in agreement. "You're really confident. I'm kind of jealous. They called me a failure at the orphanage for as long as I can remember. And now, I don't even know where I'll sleep tonight or if I'll eat tomorrow. No one would care if someone like me were to die in a ditch somewhere. Yeah, I may as well be eaten by a tiger."

"You think so lowly of yourself, and I want you to know that there are people who care about you and your life. You deserve a chance to succeed and find happiness, despite what you've been told in the past." By giving the young boy a consoling pat on the head, she broke the awkward pause. Atsushi gazed at her with his mouth slightly parted in admiration.
