My mouth gaped open and my heart dropped into my stomach.
My chest ached and my body trembled.
I shook badly as I crawled over to my father, tears pouring out of my eyes.
"Father?" I whispered, voice crackling. My voice echoed around the room, and I sobbed louder, having my brother pull me close and have us both cry together.
A Nazi kicked open the door and stormed in, in a very bad mood.
"Will you shut up?! Do you want to be gassed?!"I went quiet, so didn't my brother.
The last thing we wanted to happen was for both of us to die before we tried to escape this place.
I can't believe this.
My father just dropped dead like that, he seemed fine! Well sort of.
The Nazi glared down at the both of us and demanded for us to get on our feet.
We obeyed and stood up, trying to hide our fear inside."Its work time both of you go to the courtyard before I kill you."
Romano grabbed my hand and rushed outside before another word was even thought of being said.
We grabbed some tools and went to a useless trench where some Jews were digging.
We sighed and went to the trench, helping the others dig it deeper so none of us would end up dying. After hours and hours of useless digging a whistle blew, I didn't quite know what it meant. But peoples faces frowned and they got back to work.
"What was that?" I asked a person digging the trench with me.
"Lunch breaks over, and I didn't even get to eat."
I nodded as I heard a man fall to the ground with a thud.
He was exhausted that he had fainted, and guards stormed over and started kicking and punching him, way over the top to the point where he could die.I watched in horror as the man tried to stand but fell back to the ground, dying in agonizing pain.
The guards glare over at me and walk over, kicking up dirt with every step.
"You. New guy. Carry that dead body to the evening roll call. If you don't there'll be some consequences." They stomp off, leaving me in the dust to collect my thoughts.
I nodded slowly and turned back to work, but glancing over my shoulder every once in awhile to make sure the body was still lying on the ground.
{~~~~√~~~~}
I dragged the mans body to the roll call and got in a line, pretty scared of what happens here.
An SS guard counts all the prisoners, and after he takes a few of them and brings them to gallows and hangs them.
I instantly felt scared and my stomach turned, watching them slowly die as they were hung.
All of the prisoners marched in front of the gallows, watching the dead prisoners bodys sway in the silent wind.
The guards voices echo loudly enough so everyone can hear them."Remember. This is a warning to people! If you don't keep the work you'll end up like these poor fools."
All of the prisoners marched inside and got 'dinner'.
All it was, was a kind of soup. It tasted terrible, but since I haven't eaten all day it tasted like heaven on my taste buds.
I looked around the room to see all of the prisoners eating slowly to savor it, but not slow enough that they'd take too much time and get killed.
I sighed and finished my meal, and the hallway got crowded as everyone returned to their barracks.
Me and my brother returned to ours, to see that our fathers body was gone.
We held back the tears and managed to lay down staying strong.
Because for today, all we have to do is look up to the sky and be proud of ourselves.
We lived.
