I See Fire / Jacaerys Velaryon

Chapter 22

Jace's pov

My eyes widen as I see my mother fall into Rhaella's arms. I look behind them to see a soldier with a dagger in his chest fall to the ground. My eyes widen, realizing what just happened. "RHAENYRA!" Daemon screams out in horror as he attempts to fight off three soldiers at once. Tears fill my eyes as I cut through a soldier near me. I hear Rhaella scream and I quickly look across the battlefield to where she is. My eyes widen, seeing flames shoot out from her body as her screams take over the battlefield. "RHAELLA!" Daemon and I scream out as all of the soldiers closing in around Rhaella are burnt to a crisp. Rhaella's screams slowly die out and I watch in horror as she falls to the ground.

"RHAELLA!" I hear Aemond scream out as Vagar flies over the battlefield. I run in the direction Rhaella fell and I look to the sky and I see Valathore appear in the distance. I look back to Rhaella to see Vagar land beside her. My eyes widen in rage and I quicken my pace in attempts to get to Rhaella. Aemond climbs off of Vagar and due to Vagar's huge size, I can't see anything that is happening. "JACAERYS!" Daemon yells out and I turn to look back at him. I look up as Sunfyre flies above me and my eyes widen as he opens his mouth and a flame appears in the back of his throat. I look over as Valathore slams into Sunfyre and knocks him to the side. I look back towards Rhaella to see Aemond back on Vagar with an unconscious Rhaella in his arms. "NO!" I scream out as Vagar takes off into the sky.

I look over at Valathore to see him still fighting Sunfyre. I quickly whistle and Valathore pushes Sunfyre away and flies towards me. "JACE!" Daemon yells out as he runs towards me. Valathore lands in front of me and I approach him. I place my hand on his snout as he looks at me. "We need to get to Rhaella." I say as I look into his bright green eyes. Valathore growls slightly and nods.

"Jacaerys, we know where Aemond is taking her. We can not launch a full-scale attack on King's Landing right now." Daemon says as he approaches me. "We can't abandon her. You know what the Greens will do to her!" I yell at Daemon. "We don't know that." Daemon protests. "Yes, we do!" I yell as tears form in my eyes. "No, we don't because Aemond is with her. We both know Aemond would never let anything happen to her." Daemon says as he places his hand on my shoulder. "I can't leave her." I say as a tear rolls down my cheek. "We won't leave her, but we must regroup right now. You are now King of the Seven Kingdoms." Daemon says and I shake my head. "I don't want it." I say as more tears stream down my face. "You don't have much of a choice." Daemon says with a sigh. I nod reluctantly and Valathore roars.

"We need to go back to Dragonstone." I say numbly and Daemon nods. "I will order our troops to retreat." Daemon says and I nod. Daemon walks away and I look back at Valathore. "Go back to Dragonstone." I say and Valathore roars and takes off into the sky. Vermax takes Valathore's spot in front of me and I numbly mount my dragon. "To Dragonstone." I say and Vermax flies into the sky. I look over to see Daemon on Syrax flying beside me. A tear slips down my cheek as I register everything that has just happened. My mother is dead, Rhaella has been captured, and I am the King of the Seven Kingdoms.
