Lucy hummed to herself as she got ready. It was the first day back at school and she wanted to look good.

She put on a baby blue dress with a white lace collar, white thigh high socks and some blue and white trainers. Casual but cute. She packed her school things into the fluffy pink backpack, it had a bunny ears. The backpack had earned her a nickname started by one of her friends. "Bunny Girl."

Lucy headed the long curved stairs, an overly elaborate bragging right of wealth, courtesy of her father.

The mansion felt empty and sterile, a lonely museum of polluted memories and fractured dreams.

"You're awake. Good. We need to talk before school." A man with a bushy moustache greeted as Lucy reached the dining area.

There were no good mornings, no hellos. This was the reality of living with her father.

"Yes father.." Lucy sighed as she sat down, picking at her breakfast. Her appetite suddenly deserting her.

"Good, I'm glad we're on the same page. We must discuss your future. I was lenient on you last year...in lieu of the-changes. Your mother's passing and going to a new school. However now is the time to focus seriously on your future. No more silly dreams, no boyfriends. You will focus hard on your studies, I will be finding you a suitor and you will marry after your graduation." Jude Heartfillia stated matter-of-factly. There was no room for argument.

Lucy lowered her head. "Yes father.." she whispered. She knew better than to protest. Lucy find herself wishing, not for the first time, that her mother was still here, her mother always encouraged her to follow her dreams.

Lucy left the house with her head down, a heavy weight in her chest. The chauffeur driving her to school looked over with a worried gaze but said nothing.

Lucy entered the school gates-large silver arches-the metal twisted into complex whimsical designs. The school was a large white marble building. A fancy private school. Magnolia trees and cherry blossoms grew in clumps across the neatly trimmed quad. Boxes of pristine flowers lined the wall.

"Lu-chan!" A sweet voice called out. Lucy turned to see her best friend, Levy waving at her. Levy was a petite girl with shoulder-length blue hair.

"Hi Levy." Lucy said softly as she turned to face her friends. They were a large group. A mismatch of people from all different backgrounds, Lucy wouldn't trade them for the world.

"A new year, isn't this exciting? I wonder what text we'll study in English." Levy hummed.

"Well let's make haste, we wouldn't want to be late on our first day back." Erza said as she ushered everyone inside, always a stickler for rules.

Lucy headed to English with Levy, they chose a table close to the window.

Students filled in until the class was almost full, there was an empty desk in front of Lucy and Levy.

The teacher strolled in. "Okay class, we will begin with some Shakespeare today, but first we have a new student so please give him a warm welcome." She said.

There was a chorus of hushed whispers.
"A new student, wonder what he's like."
"I hope he's hot."
"I bet he's an asshole."

Lucy wasn't paying attention to the whispers, though she was as intrigued as everyone else.

"Alright you can come in now." The teacher announced. The door creaked open and a boy with pink hair walked in. Lucy was drawn in by his appearance.

The boy had green almond shaped eyes, sharp against his tanned skin. He wore black jeans with chains hanging from them, a baggy red shirt with a black print of a dragon, the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Bracelets and wrist bands dangled around his wrist. A silver dragon pendant hung from a piece of black chord around his neck. What really drew Lucy in however was the jagged scar across the boy's neck and cheek, and the piercings.
