We settled down to a nice lunch and learned more of each other. Jake worked in accounting here in Alabama, and his girlfriend of three years, Jessica, worked for a tax refund firm. They meet through a mutual friend, and it was love at first sight. He said Jessica challenged him to be a better person while he kept her wild side calm. Jessica apparently had a problem with handling her blood thirst at times, and Jake knew exactly how she was feeling since he went through the same thing.

Jake ate everything on his plate then leaned back into his chair with a sigh. "Your a good cook. Maybe you should think about going into some kind of food business."

"I've thought about it, but being a vampire always holds me back. Sometimes I wish I was just a human, so I could see how it feels again."

"I know what you mean. Who changed you?"

"I'm not sure exactly. I was walking down this road towards the general store when a man came out of the woods and grabbed me. He promised me it wouldn't hurt, so I agreed to the change. I mean what twenty five year old wouldn't want to look young for ever? I never got a look at his face because his hood was covering it. What about you?"

"I think it was somebody I knew because he treated me with kindness. I also don't know exactly who he is and what he looks like, but he promised me an immortal life with strength benefits. I thought it was the jackpot of offers, and I jumped at the idea. As I look back now, I should have declined and lived on as a human. Oh well, can't change the past now."

I smiled at his brave comment, but I knew how he was really feeling on the inside. "Well we have four vampires that are ready to fight George. All we need is three more, and I think we can overpower him. I only have ten more numbers that I can call that owe me favors, and I have feeling that we'll only get maybe one more fighter out of them. Do you have any connections that we can track down? Anything might help."

"Let me think. I might have a few, but most of them will most likely turn us down. Have you ever considered turning people for an army?"

I was shocked at his dismissive attitude towards changing people just for the sake of an army. "No! I can't believe you just suggested that Jake. You just got done telling me how much you miss being a human, and you would easily change another human just so you would have an army? I'm disappointed in you. Humans should stay humans, and you know that. I'll let that slide this one time."

He looked down at his hands ashamed of himself. "Sorry, I just want enough vamps, so we can take down George."

I softened my gaze. "We'll get them Jake. Don't worry we'll get them."

He smiled a bit. "Hey by the way, who was that wolf?"

"You know I have no fricken idea. I don't know anyone that's a werewolf, but I'm glad they came in and helped me out."

"Ya me too. If he hadn't pushed me out of the way, there's no telling what I would've done to you."

"Don't worry I think I have a secret protector.
