I watched quietly from the bleachers as Harper spoke to Logan over the fence, her smile bright. His hands moved slightly as he talked, Harper giving enthusiastic nods every few minutes, one of her pale hands moving to tuck a strand of auburn hair behind her ear.

From my vantage point, I could see Logan pause slightly at the movement, his mouth faltering for a small second before resuming. The fading golden light shown over the two, and a soft smile was present on my face as I watched my best friend interact with one of the only guys she had ever truly shown an interest in.

A bump on my shoulder knocked me from my vantage point, and I shifted to glare at the opposition. Hunter's blue eyes gleamed with mischief. I turned back towards the remaining players on the field, running drills as the coach called them out. Logan had snuck off earlier, supposedly taking a water break, but I just laughed when he motioned Harper over to the fence to talk.

Now that Hunter was beside me, my attention was off the duo, and onto the blonde boy beside me. His normally tanned skin appeared golden, and I ducked my face back down the notebook I was reviewing to avoid staring.

The coach yelled over to the two boys, and Hunter's head jerked up before he gave me a wide grin before jogging off, his hair flopping. I turned back towards Logan and Harper, watching as he rocked back and forth before Harper nodded at whatever he had said, and Logan ran off as the coach called him again.

I raised a brow as Harper shifted, turning to walk back towards me whilst barely holding back a smile. She sat beside me and I turned, facing her with a knowing look. It didn't take long before she started gushing.

"So, I may have a date for this weekend!" Harper practically squealed, and I couldn't hold back my light grin at her excitement. Her hands waved excitedly as she started explaining how he asked, as though I hadn't been sitting a max of ten feet away and could hear some of the words shared.

I loved her enthusiasm, though. Knowing that one of us, and now Skylar, had someone who was genuinely interested in them helped bring some more light to my life. Ever since Harper had started getting closer to Logan, she was happier. Brighter, if that was even possible with someone like Harper who exuded sunshine energy almost constantly.

Although, her getting more involved with Logan meant she spent less time hovering around me, which was perfectly fine. She didn't need to be dragged down the hole I was still stuck in with my parents. Even though my father had left, yet again, my mother had started spiraling again. I was coming home to twice the amount of bottles as the last time, and the front porch was occasionally littered with the remnants of her outdoor spirals.

It was another few minutes before Harper ran out of breath, and I smiled at the impossibility of her ever running out of steam to keep going. She plopped beside me, pulling out her phone to check the weather for the weekend. "Oh lord, what do I even wear!" Her small exclamation made me stifle a laugh, holding back as I watched her start to spiral down to the level of overly dramatic Harper.
