The brutal winds peaked out from the cracks in the shutters. Naerys used what little moonlight she had to quietly dress. Dallon had slept at the foot of the bed and his soft snores overpowered the howl of the wind outside. Naerys fastened her belt around her waist, her dagger slipped carefully through her belt loop. She took a chance and lit her ablaze.

The orange reflection bounced off of the walls and Naerys heart nearly dropped when she saw Frynne sat straight up in the bed. "Seven hells Frynne!"

"And where are you going?" Frynne crossed her arms over her chest. Naerys could not help but gawk as her gown dropped down dangerously low, over the curves of her breast.

"Go back to bed. I will return before sunrise."

"Nice try." Frynne pulled her feet up from underneath the blankets. She tried her best to move quietly and carefully to not disturb their son. "Talk to me."

Naerys sat her candle on the bedside table and sat beside her lover. She took a deep breath and Frynne wrapped an arm around her waist. Naerys inhaled harshly and rubbed both hands down her face while she blissfully closed her eyes. "Last night downstairs. I saw things I could not explain. I heard and felt things that were not there. I think it has something to do with my mother."

Frynne pushed Naerys long silver hair off of her shoulder and kissed the exposed skin of her neck. Frynne rested her chin on the other woman's shoulder and watched her intently. "So you are set to run off without us to find out the truth?"

"Whatever I saw, it was not...human. I refuse to put you both in harms way."

"But you would leave Dallon without his mother? You would leave me without my guiding light? You are not selfish." Frynne cupped the side of Naerys face and turned her head so she was staring deep within those purple and brown orbs. "This is not your burden alone." Naerys rested her head in Frynne's hand, allowing her to support the weight of her head.

"I do not remember my mother. I do not even know if she is worth remembering," Naerys licked her lips before continuing. "The family I did have....they are not worthy of knowing Dallon anymore. I just want something...someone out there who shares our blood, that can tell me about our past...our future."

Frynne gave the woman a supportive smile. She stroked her hair with her free hand and Naerys took her hand in her own, kissing her palm. "I understand. I know what it is like to not know. To live in that darkness." Frynne sat up and pushed Naerys hair behind her chilled ears. "I love you, on battlefields, in the darkest of shadows that we explore together. In the rings of trees. In the wreckage of ships and dragon fire. You slid back through my life, and I have known you since before I knew you. Before you knew yourself. I am here to stay."

Frynne took Naerys hands and placed them against her sternum. Her heart was pounding steadily against her rib cage. "My heart belongs to you. My soul, my body, my everlasting love. It is yours, Naerys. I am here for whatever you need. If you need to find the truth about your mother then I will be your faithful companion." Frynne leaned in and their breaths mingled in the brisk air. "What is the Westerosi saying? I am yours, and you are mine?"

"Are you two gonna kiss?" Dallon's sleepy voice cut through the two women. He sat up on the edge of the bed with a pout, rubbing his tired eyes.

Naerys laughed and grabbed the back of Frynne's neck in a firm grip. Those deep brown eyes enthralled her all those years ago and history was bound to repeat itself.

"Damn right we are."

Naerys mounted her horse, fastening her cloak so it was skin tight against her. Dallon passed her the satchel filled with all the supplies she would need for the quick journey. Frynne helped Dallon in the saddle and took the horse reins. Dallon and Frynne would lead Naerys to the edge of the forest.

The fresh snow crunched under heavy hooves and footsteps. Dallon crossed his arms over his chest. He was still very upset that he could not go with his mother into the forest to fight all the monsters that may or may not be there. He was angry and he was not going to hide that fact.

"I should go with you mother. Who is going to protect you?" Dallon questioned his mother. Naerys laughed and kissed the top of his head.

"I am very capable of handling myself. I am leaving you in charge of Mama. Who knows what she might do if you weren't there to keep an eye out." Frynne looked up to her lover and son and winked at Dallon. Dallon sighed and shrugged his shoulders.

"I don't have a father so I have to be the man of the house. It's my duty to protect you." Dallon picked at his fingers and Naerys felt her heart ache.

"Hey, look at me." Naerys grabbed Dallon's chin and turned his head. She gave a soft smile and brushed the fallen snow from Dallon's cheek. "I know you are in a hurry to grow up and be a warrior. But can you be my little boy for just a little longer?"

Dallon wrinkled his nose and Naerys squished his cheeks between her hands. "I haven't been your little boy for at least two years now."

"Nonsense. As long as I am your mother, you will always be my little boy." Naerys attacked his face and head with an assault of kisses. Dallon started to push her off but eventually giggled and allowed the ambush. Frynne cleared her throat and Naerys looked below to see the woman frowning.

"I am jealous."

"Do you want to be mothers little boy? The position is opened."

"You little-" Naerys tickled Dallon's sides and held him as he squirmed and wriggled to try and escape her prying hands. When she saw the joyous gleam in her sons eyes, it melted her wounded heart. He was not Daemon's son in that moment. He had never been his son. He had only ever belonged to Naerys and Frynne. The two were the only parents he would ever know.

The forest line was fast approaching. Dallon hopped from the saddle and stood beside of Frynne. The two were both saddened by Naerys departure. Naerys took the reins and took a deep breath.

"Dallon."

"Yes mother?"

Naerys gripped the reins harshly and inhaled again. "When I return we can talk about your father. If you wish. Knowing where you come from is important and I realize the weight of that now." Dallon gave a knowing nod and Frynne laid her arm across his shoulders.

Naerys would not sugarcoat the truth from her son. He was young but he was not stupid. Naerys beckoned the horse forward and into the woods she disappeared. Frynne and Dallon watched Naerys disappear until the outline was nothing but a blur in the distance.

"Come. I think your mother left us some warm lemon tarts."
