Through the corridors, hiding away from the guards that patrolled the sleeping quarters to keep the boys in their rooms and the girls in theirs, Marina followed the voice that lead her to another, locked, room. Inside, she spotted some dark figures arguing over something she could not make out, nor see on the desktop before them.
When one of them turned around, marina froze. She had seen the boy before, the grim look on his face. He had stared at Thomas during breakfast and whenever they crossed ways. He stood next to Dr Paige who gave him some orders and left the room through another door.
Following her with her eyes, marina did not notice the boy headed her way and shrug when the door opened and he stood before her. "What are you doing here?" he hissed, holding her by the arm when she tried to run away. "If they see you, they will lock you up" Before Marina could do anything, the boy dragged her into another room and locked the door behind them, his eyes on the small window in the door to check for guards. "Why are you snoopin' around?"
"No reason" Marina whispered, her back against the wall of the small room while the boy walked towards her, documents under his arm. "What is that?" she read over the lines that lit by the light from the hallway made no proper sense. A mixture of Letters and numbers, scrambled together, then a row of numbers. 7-1-5-2-, the rest she could not make out as the boy moved his arm and thus the papers out of sight.
"Don't lie, I should give you to the guards, and-"
"I heard someone" Marina uttered, her hand reached out to keep the boy from opening the door. "Like a whisper, but then it was gone, I don't know why"
The forehead in wrinkles, the boy approached Marina and leant over her. "What voice"
I don't know
"And why should I believe you then?" The boy glared at her as Marina leant against the wall.
Her shoulders shrug as she held her breath, spotting the guard outside the door. Quiet
What do you see?
A guard, outside Her eyes grew wide when she realised what had happened. The voice inside her head, it sounded just like the whisper she had heard, the one that woke her. You

I don't know, but there's somethin' they aren't tellin' us
What?
In that moment, the door flew open and the boy pushed Marina behind a shelf to shield her from the eyes of the guard.
"What are you doing in here?" the man muttered, his flashlight pointed at the boy.
Waving the papers at the guard, he turned on his heels and gestured to the other room. "I was looking for a map or somethin' to put these in. Dr Paige told me to work on that" He gave the guard a smile as he walked past him and along the corridor. There's another guard at the end of the hall, be careful
Left alone in the dark, marina took a deep breath and dropped herself to the ground. All around the clicking of the vents, the rattling of the ventilators keeping her on edge as it grew louder with every passing second.
