Alec
Even though it's been six weeks since I shared my intentions with Skylar, I am still smitten with my blue-eyed beauty. I had doubts if my attraction to her was real or just a fleeting infatuation, but I've been celibate for seven weeks and desire only one woman.
I deserve a damn gold medal, if I may say so myself.
I meant what I said when I promised to only date her and be a better man than her ex. Despite not knowing what happened between them, I'm not pushing and respect her decision to keep it private. Although I'm eager to know the details, I trust she will eventually tell me and hope for his sake whatever he did wasn't that bad.
We aren't official yet because of her insecurities but agreed to take things slow, with the condition we don't date other people and assess compatibility before taking things to the next level.
Skylar might not be mine yet, but very soon she'll be.
That's why I try to spend a lot of time with her, even if it means forgoing my friends, which is unconventional and might prompt some comments if they find out. However, Brett is the only one I told about the special woman in my life. At first, he would not believe me, but concluded that my endless excuses not to meet up with him were because of her. He thinks I'm totally whipped, but it doesn't faze me at all. At least I'm not like him, who's been crushing on his childhood friend for years and is too much of a coward to make a move.
This weekend we decided to spend some time with our friends instead of our usual routine of going down to the beach. Nonetheless, I grew tired yesterday of spending time with my buddies and kept thinking about what Skylar was up to. Today, I bury myself in work and try to stay productive, but my mind keeps drifting to her.
You're whipped Grayson.
Fuck it!
I don't even care.
I consider sending her a message to ease the distraction, but I go with calling her instead, just to hear her voice. Reaching for my phone, I speed-dial her and instantly feel animated upon hearing her sweet voice. Our conversation starts as small talk, but her quick-witted replies turn it into a playful banter that has me laughing hysterically. If this were one of my friends acting this way, I would think they were really pathetic.
Guess I am, but who cares?
After twenty minutes, just hearing her voice isn't enough, and her plan to stay indoors the whole day suddenly sparks an idea. I make an excuse that I have to go and urgently attend to something, but don't miss the disappointment in her voice before hanging up. Hoping she is hungry, I order two take-away Sunday lunches, including a tub of whiskey hazelnut latte ice cream, one of my favorite ice-creams, and a bottle of red wine from my favorite restaurant.
After a quick shower, I head to Skylar's place, grabbing the food I pre-ordered en route. Visiting her breaks our agreement not to visit each other at home, to ensure we stick to our plan of taking things slow, but I was just too desperate to see her. I hope she will be happy to see me and forgive my unexpected visit.
I knock a few times, but my heart sinks into my boots when I receive no answer. Jeez... maybe she ran a quick errand. If only I told her I was coming over.
Well... lunch for two is canceled.
With a heavy heart, I walk away from her apartment door, but a few steps in, I hear a door open. As if by reflex, I spin around and meet the gaze of beautiful ocean blue eyes that make me feel like I'm floating on cloud nine. However, Skylar stares at me wide-eyed with her mouth agape, completely taken aback by my presence. Then a barely audible whisper escapes her.
