he'd wish for her to react, shocked, wide eyes as she'd embrace him tightly. 

''Oh baby, I missed you so much, I'm so glad you're home!''

Or 

''I'll never let him hurt you again, I'll be clean, and I'll take care of you like a mom should.'' 

Or it was just all his imagination. It was his mind and it's tricks. 

''I don't think anyone's in,'' Clay pulled him back into reality as Justin had stood there, hand hovering inches from the wooden door.

''Fuck,'' Justin swore under his breath as he backed away, walking over to some old pots that stood in the neglected greenery of the garden, one of the porcelain pots shattered as the two still stood, it's paint crumbling away.  

''What are you going to do now?'' Clay asked as Justin failed to find a single spare key.

Justin stood there for a moment. He didn't want to just call it quits now, there had to be some lead to where his mom was. In the sixteen years that Justin lived with his mother, she had never left Evergreen. She had to be somewhere. She had to be. Justin didn't want to consider otherwise. 

''I have an idea.''
