Kirishima creased the red paper of a sticky note, finishing a small origami crane, and grabbing another post-it to start a second. However, that was not what he was supposed to be doing. Origami was, in fact, not his Tuesday night homework. Bakugo usually helped keep him focused on that type of stuff, but tonight he had some of his own stuff to finish before Wednesday,
A second paper crane sat on his desk in no time, and the redhead, out of procrastination, reached for the post-its to make another. Before he could though, the subtle whir of a neighboring slider door opening caused him to perk up a bit. One of his dorm neighbors was out on their balcony.
Figuring it a good excuse as any, he stood, pocketing one of the cranes, and went to see who it was. Pushing back the curtains, he could see the moonlight, eerily cast through the thick layer of clouds, almost spookier as he slid the door open. A gust of wind brought him a slight bit of surprise as he shut the door behind himself, but otherwise, it was a nice cool night out.
On the next balcony, to the right, Bakugo stood, unbothered. Eijiro's hand closed around the origami and he leaned on the closest railing, reaching over to tap Katsuki's shoulder.
"Ei," He smiled slightly, not even turning his head to see who might be there. "What're you doing up so late?"
"Homework. Well, clearing my head I guess, how 'bout you?"
"...couldn't sleep,"
Kirishima faltered for a second, following the blond's eyes far off to view the city. "Kat," he spoke softly. "How come I don't believe you?"
"'Cause, it's not true."
"I know." Elbowing him gently, the red head gazed warmly but concerned at his friend's face. "What's wrong?"
"Nothi—" he paused, breathing deeply. There was no point in lying to Kirishima, he always knew a lie. "Ei... I don't wanna talk about it right now."
"That's perfectly fine." Hesitating a moment, he reached across the slight distance between the balconies and rested a kind hand the blond's, brushing back a few choppy bangs to better see his ruby eyes, glittering thoughtfully with the glow of their city's nightlife. "It just feels better sometimes, to talk about... that's all."
Shifting a hand ontop of Kirishima's brushed his thumb against Kiri's wrist, feeling the bone beneath his skin. "I know."
They stood quietly together for a moment, looking down upon the city, watching the bustle of people and cars always swarming the streets.
"Kat?"
"Hm?"
"You look tired."
"Bet so," A halfhearted smile tried to show but barely flashed his face.
"No, Kat, Katsuki, serious, you look exhausted,"
"I know."
"You really don't want to talk at all? Get any of it off your mind?"
"I don't think you'd want to hear it." A small single pop jumped off his palm.
"Kat, you know I always want to hear it." A genuine smile crossed his lips. It seemed as if the blond was going to speak, but instead, yawned. "It can wait, you need sleep."
"I know."
"C'mon, I declare bedtime," Boldly, Kirishima hauled himself over the railings, terribly unsafely, and joined Bakugo on his balcony.
"Eijiro— lord," he sighed, stifling his admiration for the dedicated idiocy.
"Bedtime," He insisted, taking the blond's hand and leading him back into his dorm.
Determined to help, and trying to ignor his own sweeping exhaustion, Kirishima plucked a book from his shelf and fixed the crumpled bed sheets pulling himself and the blond up onto the freshly made bed.
He patted the space beside him and Bakugo reluctantly scooted closer.
Laughing sweetly, the redhead picked up whatever book he'd grabbed, truthfully, having not known which it was. It was The Outsiders, but he didn't mind, Katsuki liked it.
He'd never been a terrific reader but he tried his best and Bakugo seemed to like it enough, which was all he'd wanted.
They got through a good chunk of the book when Kirishima was surprised by a sudden pressure on his shoulder. Katsuki was slumped over, head resting heavily on his friend's shoulder. His face awash with a distant peacefulness, finally, he was asleep.
Though at the absence of reading, he seemed to stir a bit, so Kirishima simply continued on with the book. It was quite a fine book to be honest, but when the words began to swim before tired eyes as he forced himself to stay awake.
Despite his efforts, he couldn't hold his eyes any longer, and before he knew it, sleep had taken him too.
That night, he didn't dream, but it was still the best nights sleep he'd had in a while. A long restful night.
