The Proctor's Spy

A thumping headache caused Nyssa to close her eyes against the sunlight streaming into her room as the gauze curtains shimmered with the slight breeze wafting through the slight gap between the frame and sill. Whatever the day had in store for her it certainly was not the same freedom that the wind had. Nyssa whimpered with pain and almost retched as she moved on her side to avoid the wanton light as best she could. Rolling on her front she covered her head with the pillow in the false hope that the enforced darkness would make her feel better. What had happened last night? she groaned as she turned on her back, eyes staring at the ceiling. She remembered moonlight and ... a monster ... that was it. Nothing that explained the state of mind and soul she was in now.

Sergeant Kapia walked in holding a tray: "Here's your breakfast, my Lady," she said.Groaning with agony Nyssa rolled her eyes and, wincing with the effort as she gingerly sat up. Kapia placed the tray gently on Nyssa's lap.

"What happened?" Nyssa smacked her tongue against the roof of her mouth. Was that metal she could taste?

"You needed calming down," Kapia curtly replied. The Sergeant took out from beneath her cloak a small green bottle containing a serum. "This knocked you senseless otherwise you would have been killed."

"Like you care!"

"That's just it," Kapia rubbed her head dislodging her helmet revealing her cropped black hair, "I do care," she sighed. "I cannot explain right now. Food and drink should cure your nausea and dry mouth."

"What of the headache?"

"That will go over time," Kapia folded her arms underneath her chest, fingers tapping on her arm guards, "Your friend has been shouting for you since sunrise."

"Who?"

"The one you insist on calling Uncle," Kapia smirked, "he is under lock and key."

"Why?" Nyssa gasped and choked on her herbal tea. That smirk again, how many times did she have to explain?

"Because General and Kismet Turlough has it thus. The Grellian is his guard, he is under strict orders to allow you and I access to him only. His other friend, the Doctor, can't see him. He is with his Earthling pet, Tegan."

"The Doctor's here?" never had Nyssa felt her heart beat faster than it did now. "I want to see him!"

"You are not allowed."

"What do you mean?" Nyssa threw the covers off regardless of the breakfast and got out of bed ready to go to her door. "Without the Doctor I would not be alive!"

Kapia quickly grabbed Nyssa's hand and dragged her back towards the bed. After a moment had passed, Kapia shrugged her shoulders along with a deep sigh: "I will tell you more when we are in the chambers of Councillor Vincent," Nyssa gazed into Kapia's eyes: "I trust the information with you and him only!"

Silently, Nyssa ate what was left of her mashed up breakfast. Once she gulped down the last morsel her mouth felt less fuzzy and the nausea had completely evaporated. Someone had already filled a silver ewer with water and had set aside a cloth and towels with lavender soap to clean herself with. Nyssa stripped and washed. Letting her hair tumble down her back. Kapia tried not to look at her charge.

"You do realise you are beautiful?" Kapia said, "No wonder he is so enchanted with you?"

"He?" Nyssa enquired.

"Both of them," Kapia sighed taking her helmet off revealing a pixie heart shaped face with big bright lilac eyes. Unusual and stunning. "Councillor Vincent loves you I am certain of it," she said.
