"You have to go back." Draco Malfoy told Harry Potter, looking desperately into the flames.
"I can't do that." Harry told him, willing his broom to move faster through the inferno.
"You can't just leave her there, Potter." Draco said, panic evident in his tone.
"She's smart, she'll find her own way out." Harry told him, steering his broom out of the Room of Requirement. The second they tumbled out of the Room, the inferno turned to leave the Room as well. However, before it made it to the door, it changed course, heading deeper into the room.
"What's it doing?" Ron questioned, helping Hermione Granger to her feet.
"It's going after Des." Gregory Goyle said silently.
"Damn it, Potter!" Draco yelled, kicking a broomstick at the hallway wall. He ran a hand through his hair and turned back to look into the Room of Requirement. Blaise Zabini took this as an opportunity to run off, dragging Goyle along with him.
"Did they just leave?" A voice sounded, prompting the four teens to look behind them. There stood Desdemona Littlesea, covered in ash and soaked to the bone.
"Mona!" Draco exclaimed, pulling her into a hug and burying his face in her shoulder. The three remaining teens didn't know how to feel; they'd never seen this side of Draco Malfoy, nor did they even believe it existed. Seeing Draco Malfoy in the arms of anyone was enough to make Hermione Granger rethink her harsh thoughts she had of him, and seeing how gently Desdemona was with him made her want to apologize to her right then and there for being unbelievably rude to her.
"I'm alright dear." Desdemona murmured, running a hand gently through Draco's hair.
"Stop scaring me like that, Mona." Draco scolded, pulling his face from Desdemona's shoulder.
"Well, it's never my fault." Desdemona defended, sending Draco into a short bout of laughter. The sound of Draco Malfoy laughing lightheartedly with someone made Ronald Weasley and Harry Potter scrunch their noses up in confusion, completely baffled at the total personality shift of Draco Malfoy.
== Desdemona's POV ==
"We should go." Draco said, reaching for my hand.
"You're welcome!" Ron yelled as we rounded the corner. I rolled my eyes and continued walking, hearing explosions all over the place.
While we were running through the corridors, I caught sight of two redheads and a copper haired boy locked in battle with three powerful Death Eaters. I broke away from Draco and ran to the trio as I saw all three Death Eaters raise their wands and mutter spells. I shot three killing curses in record time, sending the three Death Eater's to the ground.
"Move!" I yelled, pulling Percy and Fred Weasley out of the corridor and into another. Cedric stumbled behind me, just seconds before another explosion took out the walls where they had been standing.
"Thank you." Fred and Cedric breathed, the redhead pulling me into a tight hug.
"You're welcome." I murmured, clinging onto Fred momentarily. "Stay safe."
"You, too." Fred nodded, releasing his hold on me. Draco and I stepped away from Cedric, Percy, and Fred, shooting spells at Death Eaters while they were focused on others. However against them I was, I didn't want Draco to get caught and killed. So, we helped as discreetly as we could. Suddenly, Voldemort's voice sounded in my head, giving me a major headache.
"You have fought valiantly.... But in vain. I do not wish this. Every drop of magical blood spilled is a terrible waste. I therefore command my forces to retreat. In their absence, dispose of your dead with dignity. Treat your injured."
Then, the headache was gone, and I looked up to Draco.
"I can't leave." I told him. He nodded, taking my hand.
"We'll stay, then." He said with a small smile. I squeezed his hand and turned towards the makeshift hospital wing we'd passed earlier with every intention of checking on the Weasley's. However, I hardly made it five feet before Hermione Granger stood in my path, blocking my way.
"I don't want to fight." She said, her tone soft. I glanced up at her tiredly, taking note of the sad look in her eyes
"What can I do for you, Granger?" She handed me a clear vial, one holding multiple memories within it. "What is this?"
"Snape asked me to give them to you." Hermione said. "He's, uh.. He's gone."
"He's gone?" I whispered, clutching onto the vial.
"I'm sorry, we couldn't do anything." Hermione pleaded, reaching to take my hand in an act to comfort me. I harshly jerked away from her, glaring into her sympathetic eyes.
"Mona." Draco said softly, reaching for me.
"No." I whispered, turning on my heel and making my way to the Headmaster's office. Luckily, no one followed me.
