One day, after Lucius returned home from work, we sat down at their ridiculously large dining table and ate a silent dinner. Until, the patriarch himself cleared his throat, and offered his wife a tight smile.

"What is it, dear?" Narcissa asked sweetly.

"Cornelius Fudge has invited us to join him at the Quidditch World Cup this year." Lucius announced. "I've decided to take Draco and Desdemona with me."

"What a wonderful idea, dear." Narcissa smiled brightly.

"I trust you'll get the children ready for our outing." Lucius raised an eyebrow at his wife.

"Of course, darling!" Narcissa agreed enthusiastically. "I'll take them out to the shops, get our dear Desdemona something beautiful to wear for when she meets the Minister."

Lucius stood, ignoring Narcissa's excited rambling, and walked into his study. The heavy door slammed shut, making me jump slightly.

"Come on, darlings." Narcissa cooed, not phased by her husband's actions. "I'll bring Pinky along to carry our things. Desdemona, dear, what color would you say you look best in? I feel like something bright might bring out your eyes and hair, but something dark might make your complexion pop."

"Mum, Mona looks beautiful in anything." Draco laughed, making me blush.

"My son, the charmer." Narcissa teased. "Now, hurry along. We must go now to have enough time for Desdemona to try on as many dresses as she can!"

"Yes, mother." Draco rolled his eyes.

On the day of the Quidditch World Cup, Narcissa had helped me get ready. She had helped tame my wild curls, opting to leave my face free of makeup. After slipping into the expensive dress she'd purchased for me, she went through her closet in search of the perfect shoes.

I stood in front of the mirror, examining my unfamiliar form in it. The dress was black and green, the colors of Slytherin house, and fit my form rather nicely. My pale skin contrasted beautifully with the darker colors, and made my green eyes stand out.

"Found them!" Narcissa grinned, holding out a pair of black flats. "They're brand new, and you can keep them after tonight. I've also found you a nice black scarf to wear over your bare arms, in case you get cold."

"Thank you, Mrs. Malfoy." I said softly, slipping my feet into the new shoes.

"I've told you to call me Narcissa, Desdemona." She smiled, pulling me in for a hug. "I've always wanted a daughter."

"Narcissa, please help our son with his tie." Lucius requested from the door. "He doesn't know how to decide between two colors."

"Yes, dear." Narcissa smiled dazzlingly. "I'll bring him here once I'm finished."

As she walked away, I stood beside Lucius with a straight back. I kept my chin raised and my eyes forward, hoping not to get on his bad side.

"You'll fit in nicely." Lucius muttered; his idea of a compliment.

"Thank you." I said with a nod.

"I just wanted to say, Desdemona," Lucius continued, raising a brow in my direction. "You are welcome back to the manor any time."

His words sounded sincere, and I couldn't stop myself before I opened my mouth and said something out of pure instinct.

"I can't imagine why." This earned a shocked look from Lucius. "I, myself, am unclear as to what my blood status is. If I were you, I would steer clear of a witch with unknown origins, especially if it would tarnish my reputation."

"That sharp wit of yours, my dear, is why you are welcome in my home." Lucius spoke with a rare smile. "You are quite intelligent, Desdemona; much more intelligent than your mother was."

"You knew my mother?" My posture faltered.

"And your father." Lucius nodded. "You take after him, you know. But you have your mother's eyes."

"Are they alive?" I pressed my luck.

"Your father is alive," Lucius answered. "But your mother, fortunately, is not."

Fortunately? I thought, absorbing the information that was just dumped on me. What was so fortunate about my mother being dead?

"Mona, you look beautiful." Draco offered me a smile as he approached Lucius and I. "As usual."

"Come along children." Lucius demanded, holding out his arm. Draco wrapped an arm around my waist before we both grabbed onto Lucius's arm. "Hold on."

I gripped onto his sleeve and prepared myself for the apparition. Having done this before, I only stumbled slightly when we arrived at the arena. Draco held me up with the arm already wrapped around my waist, shooting me a slight smile.

"Easy, Mona." He said, making sure I was steady before we followed after his father. I shivered slightly as we made our way up the stairs to the Minister's box, opting to keep it to myself as Lucius strode ahead of us. Draco, however, noticed almost immediately, and shrugged off his suit jacket before placing it on my shoulders. I sighed at the warmth and smiled up at him.

"Blimey, dad, how far up are we?" Ronald Weasley's voice sounded. Draco's arm tightened around me as Lucius stopped walking and turned toward the family of redheads.

"Well, put it this way." Lucius started, his voice full of teasing. "If it rains, you'll be the first to know."

"Father, Mona, and I are in the Minister's box, by personal invitation of Cornelius Fudge himself!" Draco stated proudly, his hand leaving my waist momentarily.

"Don't boast, Draco." Lucius hissed. "There's no need with these people. Do enjoy yourself, won't you? While you still can."

Lucius's tone turned into somewhat of a warning at the end, making me tense slightly. Draco pulled me close to him as we made it into the Minister's box, keeping me right beside him as we greeted everyone his father did. After shaking the third hand, I was wishing I was anywhere but here.

The quidditch match was riveting. Draco and I spoke amongst ourselves as the game progressed, talking about strategies and possible plays. After the game was finished, Draco pulled me to his side again as Lucius spoke to his co-workers. I sleepily leaned against Draco's shoulder, startling awake when an explosion sounded outside of the stadium.

"What-" I started, furrowing my brow as Lucius and a few of his co-workers disapparated. Draco's arm tightened around me, and he pulled me away from the windows.

"What is going on?" Draco asked quietly, the sound of the crowd screaming pouring into the Minister's box. I sucked in a panicked breath at the sight of dark spells flying through the air.

"Where is your father?" I gasped, gripping Draco's arm. "We need to go."

"I don't know." Draco said softly. "We're okay, Mona."

"Draco." I said shakily, my eyes following a single green spell shot into the sky. It landed in the clouds, revealing the Dark Mark dancing through the sky.

"Mona, we're going to be fine." Draco told me, pulling me into his arms blindly; his eyes were locked on the Dark Mark as well. After a beat of complete silence, Lucius apparated beside us, grabbing Draco and I by the shoulders.

"Let's go." He hissed, apparating us back to the manor.
