== Desdemona's POV ==
"Perfect." I muttered, placing my now closed book beside me.
A chill filled the air, and while the window of the compartment frosted over behind me, I focused on my breath that appeared in the air. The compartment door slid open slowly, and a large bony hand reached around to grip the door frame. I shivered as a large cloaked figure floated just into the compartment, leaning further against the back of the seat I was in. A ghastly breath sounded within the compartment, sending a chill down my spine.
I looked up, and as my eyes met the dark eyes of the creature before me, I felt all the happiness get sucked out of my body. The closer the creature got to me, the further my vision blackened, and the tighter I was wrapped in a blanket of sadness. Just as the creature was about to grab my arms, a bright white light engulfed the compartment, and the cloaked figure was forced out of the compartment. The force of the creature bolting away from me sent me crashing to the compartment floor.
"Are you alright?" A somehow familiar voice asked from somewhere above me. I willed my eyes to focus on the tall figure, and blinked as I took in his facial hair and his worried expression.
"No." I spoke truthfully, gently pushing myself up off the compartment floor. Draco rushed forward to help me up, but I slapped his hands away and pulled myself to my feet.
"Eat this, it'll help." The man said, offering me a piece of chocolate.
"No, thank you." I refused politely, gently massaging my throbbing temples. "Chocolate gives me a headache."
"Right." The man nodded, tucking the bar of chocolate back into his pocket.
"Was that a dementor?" I questioned, settling back down on the bench I'd abandoned.
"Yes, my dear." The man nodded. "Nasty little thing; seemed to suck the happiness right out of this compartment."
"Desdemona, not dear." I corrected the man, noting that his eyes widened.
"Right," He cleared his throat. "I'm Professor Lupin, your new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor."
"And that light?" I continued. "That was a patronus?"
"Yes." Professor Lupin nodded, looking impressed at my knowledge.
"What form does yours take?" I asked. "Mine takes the form of a mole."
"Where did you learn the charm?" Professor questioned, his eyes wide. "How long did it take for you to get a corporeal form?"
"I learned of the charm during my summer reading last year." I answered. "However, I learned to cast the charm during my extra Defense lessons with Professor Snape. The full corporeal form came through on my third try."
"Your third try?" Professor Lupin nodded, his eyes looking far off.
"You took extra lessons with Snape?" Draco questioned, almost covering up the sound of a thud two compartments down.
"Right, I have to go." Professor Lupin suddenly spoke, tearing out of the compartment as quickly as humanly possible.
"Not that it's any of your business, Malfoy," I started, turning to look at the blonde boy across from me. "But I've been taking extra lessons with Professor Snape since my first year at Hogwarts. It's why my potions homework was more advanced than yours, and why I never had free time."
"She's smarter than us, Draco." Crabbe snickered.
"You got that right." Goyle agreed, watching as I opened my book back up.
