Ouma happily munched his plain slice of bread and stared at the lilac hanging from the wisteria tree. It'd been a few days since Ouma returned to school and every break time was spent with Amami in the east garden. Sometimes Shirogane joined, but sometimes she hung out with other friends. During that time, Ouma hadn't been permitted to check on Saihara once, nor did he own a phone for his boyfriend to call. His uncle reassured the boy that he was still okay.
"Hey, Ouma, I need to tell you something," Amami muttered. The boy frowned at the use of his name but he turned and provided his full attention regardless. He watched as the greenette sighed and took Ouma's free hand, making his hand twitch with an urge to retract it. "I know you don't want to hear this but... Saihara... isn't the best boyfriend. He's abusive, even though you don't see it. It's who he is, he's not going to change for his partners, he never did."
The boy frowned with his mouth agape in disgust. "How could you say that about a friend?!"
Amami sighed and let go of Ouma's hand. "I like the dude, don't get me wrong. We grew up together. He's become pretty violent and obsessive though and I don't know if he's truly safe to be around, I only managed because Akamatsu and Shirogane were around to help if I angered him.
"Why does everyone say that?!" Ouma shouted. He threw his arms into the air, accidentally dropping his bread. The boy hurried to grab it, dusted off the dirt and took another small bite. Dirt wouldn't kill him, he'd eaten much worse. "Shuichi is nothing but sweet and kind! He'd never hurt me!"
The greenette reached up to cradle Ouma's face, causing the latter to flinch and pull back. "Oh, sorry, I should've gotten permission first," Amami stammered. "Can... I do that?" Ouma hesitated but slowly nodded, now prepared when his jaw was touched. "I'm not trying to hurt you when I say that you can't see Saihara's abuse. He's manipulated you and taught you that his behaviour is normal. I... I'd like to show you what true love is."
Ouma began frowning, originally upset by the harsh words toward his boyfriend. Before he could defend Saihara, his frown morphed into one of confusion. "True... love?"
Amami nodded and smiled, but Ouma could sense some fear in him. "I have a massive crush on you Ouma, I love you so much more than Saihara ever can. It hurts to see you willingly be abused by him." He continued to lean in as he spoke. His words made Ouma travel to his thoughts, deciphering what he could mean (aside from the obvious love confession). When his lips gently pressed against Ouma's, the boy didn't dare move a muscle, unsure of what to do. The hand holding his snack weakened, making his bread fall into the dirt again. Did he want this? Why did it feel safe and comfortable? Wasn't he supposed to like Saihara alone? What the fuck?
Someone nearby cleared their throat and Amami pulled away, leaving Ouma sitting there in shock. He shook out of his trance to see Saihara standing before them, arms crossed and a scowl on his face. His glare should've burned a hole through Amami until the greenette dropped dead.
Gasping in pleasant surprise, Ouma jumped up and raced toward his boyfriend. He opened his arms wide but Saihara side-stepped out of Ouma's reach. Turning to the small man slowly, he smiled so hard that his eyes closed but there wasn't anything cheerful about it. "Kokichi. My dearest sweetheart. The love of my life. Why don't you leave me and Amami alone for a few minutes?"
He pouted. First, Saihara rejected his hug, and now he was asking him to leave?! "Why?!"
Saihara's expression darkened, but his smile never faltered. Now he seemed like a sadist watching someone writhe in pain. "Do it," he demanded. Ouma nodded and grabbed his plastic bag before rushing from the garden. He plopped onto a nearby bench so Saihara could find him again easily.
