I cling to his shirt as he pulls me over the edge, and my heart pounds erratically.
"Are you good?" He asks slowly, making eye contact while still holding onto me in case I might suddenly faint from the experience, but I nod my head instead.
"I'm good," I reply, watching the way his lips curve into a tiny smile.
I pretend not to notice and wipe my freezing forehead instead, not fully realizing how soaked my body is from the sweat until this second. "Where exactly are we going? The police are right down there," I mention, staying away from the edge of the rooftop in case the flashlights aim in this direction.
And I pull away from him, putting space between us and our previous closeness.
"I've got a place in mind. It's closer than when we started, so it won't take too much longer to get there. We can shower and get some rest once we arrive. For now, let's make sure to stay out of the light," he adds, bending low and moving to the end of the building where we both proceed to jump onto another building in the opposite direction of the cops.

"Watch what I do," he instructs, climbing down the rooftop and grabbing hold of a silver pole connected to the building, and sliding down until he grabs onto the bars of a black railing from a balcony space.
Slowly, I continue to follow after him, a little less worried each time my normal fear would begin to kick in.
I take my time and slide down the pole until he helps me cross onto the balcony's railing, helping me move my legs over the black, metal bars.
"What is this place?" I ask, noticing the small view from the balcony's edge. Although the sight is pretty, I don't think anything will ever beat what I saw when up in the sky.
"It's newly-built apartments. This area is normally housing for residents of the city, so we've been bypassing a lot of homes tonight. This is the only place I could think to go, especially since the whole building isn't in use as of yet." Turning, he grabs the sliding, glass door that connects to the inside of the apartment and opens it.
Before I can ask about how he knew the door would be unlocked, he starts speaking. "Lucky guess. Seems fate is on our side," he steps through the entrance, oddly inspecting the room in the apartment before whispering, "Stay quiet until I've searched the apartment. I don't want to trigger any alarms."
"If there were alarms, don't you think the balcony door would have made something go off?" I ask, watching him turn to face me.
"I guess you're right, but for my safe of mind, don't open the front door or any windows. This place needs to look like it's empty," he admits as I turn around to shut the balcony door behind us. "And don't pull the blinds. It's a dead giveaway. If we cover the windows, it'll only give someone a reason to come here and inspect. Besides, all the other apartments have theirs open."
Listening to him, I leave the sliding door behind and sit down on the floor where I proceed to take off my shoes, which are painful.
While pulling my foot out, I see blood stained into the sock around my heel. They rubbed my feet so badly that the skin around them stings, but I did perform action stunts in these shoes.
