Chapter 14

Valathore and I fly up beside Luke and Arrax as the storm continues to rage on. I look over at Luke to see him looking worriedly back at me. I send him a reassuring nod and then look forward again. I try to wipe the water out of my eyes in order to see but it does little good. I can imagine Valathore is having the same problem. I look behind me to try and catch sight of Vagar and Aemond but they are nowhere to be seen.

I look over at Luke again to see him looking up into the clouds above him. I tilt my head to the side in confusion and look forward. My eyes widen as I see Vagar come flying toward Luke and Arrax. "LUKE!" I scream out over the thunder and rain. Luke just barely manages to move Arrax to the side and Vagar flies over him. I hear Aemond laugh maniacally as Vagar disappears into the clouds again.

"GO LUKE! GO!" I yell to my brother as Vagar appears behind Arrax and Luke. I maneuver Valathore so he is flying above Vagar. Vagar tries to bite Arrax but barely misses. Arrax and Luke dive through the air as I look down at Aemond and Vagar. "Nābēmagon Valathore!" I yell out and Valathore scratches Vagar with his claws. Vagar roars in pain and dives after Arrax. I yell in frustration and command Valathore to dive as well.

I continue to follow Vagar as we make a sharp turn. Valathore, Vagar, and Arrax fly alongside the rocky cliffs of Storms End as the wind and rain gets worse. I see a small opening up ahead and I watch as Luke and Arrax fly into it. I hear Aemond yell in frustration and I quickly pull up on Valathore's reigns as we fly above the canyon. Valathore and Vagar fly side by side and I send a sharp glare to Aemond. I redirect Valathore to fly above Vagar in case I need to command him to attack again.

"Ao enkagon nykeā gēlýn valonqar!" Aemond yells out to Luke. "Daor Arrax!" Luke yells out as Arrax breathes fire in Vagar's face. "Daor Arrax! Dohaerās issa!" I hear Luke command Arrax as they fly back into the clouds. "No, no, no, no, no Vagar! No! Daor Vagar! No! Dohaerās Vagar!" Aemond yells as Vagar turns to follow Arrax. "Shit!" I curse as I pull on the reigns for Valathore to follow Arrax and Vagar. I lose sight of Vagar but I still see Arrax so I maneuver Valathore to follow him. Valathore is much larger than Arrax so it takes him more time to follow Arrax. I groan as I see Arrax break through the clouds but Valathore still has some way to go.

Valathore finally breaks through the storm clouds and light washes over us. My eyes widen as I see Vagar appear through the clouds and fly straight for Arrax and Luke. Vagar opens his mouth and bites Arrax in half. I watch in horror as the dead dragon and my brother fall toward the sea. "LUKE!" I scream as tears spill from my eyes. I look over at Aemond as he yells at his dragon.

My sadness turns into anger as I glare at Aemond. "DRACARYS!" I scream and Valathore opens his jaws and breathes fire at Vagar and Aemond. Vagar roars in pain and flies away as I quickly command Valathore to dive. Valathore dives through the clouds and I watch as Arrax and Luke's bodies hit the seawater. A sob escapes my lips as I pull up on the reigns attached to Valathore. "Gūrogon īlva lenton Valathore." I command and Valathore roars and flies in the direction of Dragonstone as tears stream down my cheeks.

Okay, three things!

1. I'm sorry. I love Luke and Arrax but I felt like killing them off was a necessary part of the story. It is what really sets off the war and tips Rhaenyra (and Rhaella) over the edge.

2. I am going to continue to write after this chapter. It will not contain spoilers for the Dance of Dragons or A Song of Ice and Fire they will be my own story. If you don't want to read that then thank you for reading this far.
