Chapter 11

I enter the Maesters quarters and see that they already have a bed ready for Rhaella. "Lay her down here." The Maester says and I gently lay Rhaella down on the bed. "What happened?" The Maester asks as he examines Rhaella's neck. "I entered her chambers and saw a man strangling her. When I fought him he let go of her and she fell to the floor." I say only telling him the parts that he needed to know. "Did she ever regain consciousness?" He asks as he looks back at me. "Yes, only for a few minutes." I say and the Maester nods. "She should just have some bruising around her neck. I imagine she fell unconscious again because of the stress of the situation." He says and I nod. "You may take her back to her chambers." The Maester says and I nod.

I gently lift Rhaella off of the bed and walk back to her chambers. I see my mother, brother, and Daemon all waiting and I lay Rhaella in her bed. "What did the Maester say?" My mother asks worriedly as she sits on Rhaella's bed. "He said that there should just be some bruising around her neck." I say and she nods.

"What happened?" Daemon asks as he stands beside my mother and looks down at Rhaella. "Luke and I were out walking in the fields and we heard Valathore roaring in pain. He and Vermax landed next to Luke and I. I went to check on Valathore and he looked towards Rhaella's chambers. I knew that meant something was wrong with Rhaella so I mounted Vermax and flew to her chambers. When I arrived I saw the man strangling her. I fought him and won and I then went to check on Rhaella that's when all of you arrived." I explain to them and my mother nods. "He won't get away with what he did." Daemon says menacingly as he starts to exit Rhaella's chambers. "Daemon." My mother calls out but Daemon ignores her and leaves Rhaella's chambers.

My mother sighs and brushes a strand of hair out of Rhaella's face. "Valathore is not tame towards many people. He must trust you deeply Jace." My mother says and I nod. "Stay with her." My mother says to me and I nod. My mother exits Rhaella's chambers and I look over at Luke. He places his hand on my shoulder and then leaves. I pull up a chair and gently take Rhaella's hand. I lean my head against her bed and slowly drift off to sleep.

I look around to see Valathore flying toward me. He lands in front of me and roars in pain. I hear Rhaella scream and my eyes widen in horror. Vermax lands beside me and I quickly run over to my dragon. I mount Vermax and fly to Rhaella's chambers. I jump off Vermax and land on Rhaella's balcony. I see the door open and I quickly run into her chambers. I gasp as I see a man in green stab a sword through her stomach. "RHAELLA!" I scream as I run towards her. I reach for my sword but realize it isn't there. The man runs out of Rhaella's chambers and I immediately slide to the floor beside Rhaella.

"Rhaella, Rhae please, please stay with me, my love." I cry as tears stream down my face. "Jace." She whimpers out. "I'm here my love, I'm here." I say as I place my hands over the stab wound. "Jacaerys this is your fault. My blood is on your hands." Rhaella says and I look at her to see her eyes glowing red. "Rhae?" I ask as her eyes close and her breaths become labored. "Rhaella? Rhae? Rhaella! RHAELLA!" I scream.

"RHAELLA!" I scream as I wake up from my nightmare. "Jace, Jace, I'm here. I'm here my love." Rhaella says as she grabs my hand. I look up at her as a sob escapes my lips. "Jace." She says as she wraps me into a hug. "It's all my fault. It's all my fault." I whimper out as tears stream down my cheeks. "What is your fault, my love?" Rhaella asks as she runs her fingers through my hair. "It's my fault this happened to you." I say as I cry into her hair. "No. It is not your fault Jace." She says but I shake my head, not believing her. "Jacaerys look at me." She says and I slowly lift my head to look into her eyes. "This is not your fault. None of us knew this was going to happen my love. Do not blame this on yourself." She says as she puts her hand on my cheek. I lean into her touch and close my eyes. "I love you Jace and I do not blame this on you, no one does." She says and I nod.

Rhaella leans towards me and we share a kiss. We break away and a small smile spreads across my lips. "Come." She says as she pats the spot beside her. I look at her and she nods. I pull off my tunic and toss off my boots. I crawl into bed beside her and I wrap my arms around her waist. "I love you." I say to her as I lean my forehead against hers. "I love you too." She says as she lays her head on my chest and I wrap my arm around her shoulder and keep the other around her waist. I smile and drift off into a peaceful sleep.

Rhaella's pov

I wake up and look up as I see Jace sleeping peacefully. I smile and shift my gaze to my window. I watch as the sun rises on the horizon. "Good morning beautiful." Jace says with a smile. I smile and give him a quick peck on the lips. "Morning." I say as I try to get out of bed. "Jace." I say as he doesn't let go of me. "Can we just stay like this for the rest of the day?" Jace asks as he closes his eyes again. "You know we can't Jace." I say and he groans. "Then just for a little while longer?" He asks and I laugh. "Jace." I say and he smiles. "I love you." He says as he looks down at me. "I love you too." I say as I look up at him. We share a kiss and I manage to break free of Jace's grasp. He groans and I laugh. "Get up." I say as I throw a pillow at him. "Hey!" He says as the pillow hits him in the face. I laugh again and go to my wardrobe.

"Now this is what I want to watch." Jace says as he watches me. "I will throw another pillow at you." I say and he holds up his arms in a mock surrender. I get out a black dress with black dragon scales on the arms and shoulders, similar to my mother's. I go into my bathing chambers and slip off my current dress and put on the new one. I hear Jace walk into my bathing chambers and I turn around to look at him.

"Do you mind?" I ask as I pull my hair to the side. He nods and laces up the back of my dress. Once he gets done I turn around to look at him. I look into his dark brown eyes as he looks into my bright blue ones. We slowly lean toward each other and meet in the middle. Our lips move in unison and we both break away for air. We lean our foreheads together and smile. "I love you Rhae." Jace says quietly. "I love you too Jace." I say as we share another kiss.
