"I DON'T WANNAE FORGET THIS BEFORE YE GUYS GO BUT." Kiyo rubbed the back of his neck and sighed. "But I talked 'tae Sakari on this and she was on board with th' idea. But would you mind me bein' yer protector? Especially given that this Crimson Raven stuff is pretty serious, lad."
Mamoru uttered a small sound in confusion. He hadn't been informed of this. "Uh...a protector, sir?"
"No need 'tae call me sir, lad. Just Kiyo or Shiori's fine." Kiyo wore a soft smile. "But a protector is an entity — although it's stretched out 'ta demons an' other species nowadays — that are assigned to protect someone. Heroes are rare cases we take on, with Sakari havin' been the first. So you would be the second. It's up 'tae you."
Mamoru sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. Sure, the whole hero thing was something he was still getting used to. He's only been one for a week, after all and he still planned to get some training given that these weren't the usual cases he took on before. Meaning ones of where his or the rookies' lives could be at stake and he wouldn't want anything bad to happen to them.
But he guess it wouldn't hurt to have this former protector of Sakari's be his, especially for him and his husband. Who knew what else would happen?
"...Sure, but how would this work, though?" he wondered, putting his hands into his pockets.
"Well...with Sakari, I had gone wit' her off an' on to th' missions they were assigned to. I will do the same fer you and yer lot, as well as give some trainin', when me an' my wife aren't busy with our little ones."
The blond chuckled at that and nodded. "Understood. So you might help with the cases and make sure we're protected, same with the rookies?"
Kiyo's expression softened. "Yes of course."
"They've only been here in the job for a week, but they've done phenomenal and...I see great potential in them. Just like I had seen in my detectives in the early days of the agency." Mamoru voiced, his tone soft and reminiscent. "I know I am a little strict, but I do mean well and...after what happened in the first case, I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to them at all."
Especially since I was too late on saving my own relative years ago, which sparked my motivation for starting this agency in the first place.
"Looks like we share somethin' in common, but I agree, Mamoru." the dog entity's voice mirrored Mamoru's. Part of him could see himself in this detective and while he was older technically than the blond, he was proud of him. "It's settled, then. I will have Sada send another device over there so ye all can keep in touch wit' me, especially for emergencies."
"Thank you." Mamoru voiced, about to walk off prior to remembering something"...And one more thing."
"Yes?"
"Could the four of us come to Tigoris after this case is over? I need all the training I can get since I'm sure these cases will get more intense." Especially since Stella and Ryu insisted after the first case was over. Looks like their parents taught them well.
"Of course. Tigoris is always open 'ta ye lot. I will give you a shortcut for ye to come here, so ye lot don't have to use Sakari's necklace."
"Good idea." Sakari chuckled a bit, half out of relief, the other out of gratefulness. While they didn't mind using their necklace to assist the others in going there, having Kiyo using his powers could definitely help out a lot. Especially since while things seemed to go smoothly here, the owner often was up to her elbows in work. It wasn't easy taking over after Michiko had retired.
Kiyo said his goodbyes for hanging up, since his powers would interfere with the connection. A few minutes later, a portal opened and Kiyo stepped through.
