"You're not easily frightened, are you?"
Robyn
"That was so amazing, oh my fucking god!" Scarlet exclaims as the men leave the stage. "And the way they just pulled random people onto the stage and they knew exactly what to do! It had to be planned right? Like they planted people amongst the crowd!" Her eyes are almost as wide as the smile gracing her face, she clearly adored the show and was absolutely fascinated by the act of 'voguing'.
"Hm, I don't think so. But you're right, they were very talented." I agree with a grin, I knew she would like it.
"So?" Scar looks at me expectantly.
"So...what?" I'm suddenly very confused. Was my reaction not extreme enough for her?
"So...what are we doing next?" That smile seems to be a permanent fixture on her face today.
I chuckle, "there's something I've had my eye on the whole day." Something I know she will hate.
"Oh what is it?"
"You'll see!" I grab her hand and lead her through the crowd.
We are only a few metres away from the haunted house when Scar lets out a grunt and lets go of my hand just before she falls to the ground.
"Scar!" I turn, ready to help her up but my arm is cut off from reaching out to her by a dark tatted one.
"Oh my god I'm so sorry!" Scar scrambles to say as the unknown hand helps her up.
"Well, looks like you fell for me gorgeous." The mysterious woman flirts with a devilish smirk.
"Gorgeous? That's a new one! I'm Scarlet," she's blushing and I know it's just from being complimented. Scarlet's a slut for any sort of praise.
"Madeline, darling." The woman responds.
"Oh stop it with the pet names and just hand me your phone," Scarlet teases with an extended hand.
"With pleasure."
I rake my eyes over this very bold woman. She's tall, much taller than Scar, even taller than me! And I'm six-three! She has thick dreads that dangle below her waist, they're accessorised with various gemstones and silver charms. My eyes catch on a flash of light and are drawn to the multiple piercings covering her ears, she even has a few on her nose, as well as one on her left eyebrow. Her eyes are sharp, a dangerous green, similar to Scar's but deeper.
Scar grabs my arm and I'm pulled from my thoughts as Madeline walks away.
"Did you just give her your number?" I ask, stunned.
"Yeah, why not?" Scar shrugs.
"Um, because you're straight?" I respond, "Unless there is something you haven't told me, and if that's the case I'd be very disappointed you didn't tell me sooner."
"Oh calm down! I am straight...unless I'm not?" Confusion covers my face and I raise an eyebrow. "I guess I've never really thought about it, so why not experiment a bit?" Scarlet is so calm about the whole situation that I start to think that maybe I'm the one overreacting.
It just took me so long to even accept the possibility, but Scar- she. She's just embracing it, without a care in the world. I take a breath, I'm happy she isn't struggling with the idea. It's a good thing, and so, I once again latch onto her hand and lead her closer to the haunted house.
We're about one metre away from the end of the line when I feel a tug on my head and turn to see Scar standing there, frozen.
"Absolutely not." Her voice is firm, and I was so sure she would at least think about it!
"Oh come on! Please! It's no fun on your own!" I'm whining, I know I am.
"Suck it up crybaby, there's no chance." Dammit she didn't even debate it. "Off you go!"
Scarlet pushes me towards the singles' line and I sigh. I guess I have no choice, I was really looking forward to the haunted house so there is no way I'm not going, even if it has to be alone.
"I'm sorry but I really have to go! Please don't let me stop you from enjoying yourself though, they have a singles' line!" I hear an unfamiliar voice behind me as I stand behind the last person in the line.
"No it's fine, I understand! I'll just go alone!" The second voice is oddly familiar but I choose to ignore it, there's no way someone I know would be here.
That's right, no one I know would come here. Actually, Dane or Fern might but Dane would be with his parents not another teenage boy. And Fern- yeah nevermind, Fern would never come here she's way too much of a homebody to come out to a carnival. No matter the occasion.
"Fuck, why am I even here? I should just leave now. There's no point in staying any longer, it's already getting late anyways." The weirdly familiar voice grumbles as they stand behind me, I feel the hairs on my neck rise.
Why is their voice so familiar!
