His Descendant

"Life is what you make it." They say. But for me, sometimes you don't make life for you. But rather, life is what makes you.

In my story, it's not all fantasies and fairytales where one finds a mysterious-looking door that would change their life once they enter out of curiosity. My door was right in front of me ever since I was born.

The day I had my battlefield promotion at the age of 16 was the day the kingdom, my kingdom, our kingdom had fallen.

Invaded by the cruelty of King Yoo Haeseo's monarch, we had been ambushed with great sorcerery – such dark magic that not even my father, the strongest vampire-sorcerer, could defeat it.

My father, who had been the king, Lee Minhyun, died right infront of me. His soul taken by what seemed to me was a lantern with black fire on Yoo Haeseo's hands. It's black, but it still emits light.

My older brother, whom is the successor of the throne, Lee Taeyong, had been captured and kept inside Yoo Haeseo's deep dark chambers, or so I thought...

Frantic with my thoughts of some worst case scenarios of what could have happened with my brother — it's inevitable.

Right at that day, my mother who is the Queen of Zerene, Shim Eunbyeol, and my right hand man who's a skilled fighter, Hwang Hyunjin, took me with them inside the castle; fighting off werewolves along the way.

Bodies of werewolves and vampires with their pool of blood on the floor, perished as the werewolves' form went back to human then to black ashes and vampires slowly turned into burning ashes.

They had me with them in a room, locked and hidden under the castle where our family had kept a portal hidden from the outside world.

A portal in which you travel to another dimension called "Earth".

I knew already that this invasion was bound to happen – everyone in Kallix, our dimension, knew and so the kingdom of Zerene had come up with the only best back-up plan... To bring me, the youngest descendant of the Lee hierarchy to Earth whilst they defend the kingdoms' territory.

These two kingdoms had never been on good terms since our very creation. Vampires and werewolves just couldn't get along with our history and kind. Werewolves' fangs to poison a vampire and the other to pull off it's head.

Long before even my great grandfather was born, our nations have been on grudges. It all started with Park Hyunseok, a vampire who's acquainted with a werewolf, Han Doyeon, leader of the werewolf nation.

Park Hyunseok was the vampire nation's leader at that time, and had no bad intensions with the werewolf nation.

Han Doyeon and Park Hyunseok were the best of friends, not until Kang Hyejin came in the picture.

It was said that Park Hyunseok's lover, Kang Hyejin, had cheated with Han Doyeon and that made Park Hyunseok to only feel anger knowing that he had been betrayed by someone he trusts.

Both the vampire and werewolf had a huge fight. So huge it involved both the Leader's armies prepared for war and bloodshed.

Since then, both nations could only see each other with wrath and hatred. Families of the innocent, their bodies lifeless, stained with red blood of both the guilty and theirs.

Coming back to the portal, this serves as the gateway to Earth and Earth only. Stepping inside the portal can randomly take you anywhere on Earth, but if you've been there for at least once, just think of the place and there you shall lead to.

Not long after we got inside this room, Yoo Haeseo's minions already found us, banging and scratching the door trying to break inside. Damn these beasts' sense of smell.

Hwang Hyunjin wields his sword, ready to fight back some werewolf ass when my mother stopped him.

"Halt, Hyunjin. You take Y/N to Earth. I trust you with protecting her... I'll stay and hold them off," mother orders Hyunjin before whispering something inaudible for me to hear.

"But, Your Highness-"

"No buts! That's an order, Hwang, not a request."

Hyunjin stayed silent for a moment with his head down before giving mother a bow, obliging my mother's order. "Yes, Your Highness."

"But mom, I can't just leave you here."

"Sweetie"–my mother held both my hands–"I must do this do protect you. After you get in the portal, I'll follow right after."

"You promise?"

My mother gave me a smile, one that I thought would not lie to me before responding, "I promise. Now go."

Hesitating, I gave in and followed Hyunjin to the portal. I entered the portal and the last thing I saw was my mother fighting off Yoo Haeseo's minions before destroying the portal.

"Mom! No!" And she disappeared from my sight.

When Hyunjin and I got to the other side, bright light shined before our eyes. A moment has passed when I heard Hyunjin call for me.

"Your Highness, we're here."

As I opened my eyes, a house was infront of us — one that I've not seen before. We're currently in a silent neighborhood as it was already late midnight.

"This way, Your Highness."

I didn't listen to him, rather I let myself fall on my knees and all I could do was lower my head. I didn't want anyone to see me looking so vulnerable. My mom just destroyed the portal and that meant not getting back to Kallix again. She couldn't come with me to Earth.

First they kill my Dad and kept my brother hostage... Now my mother... I have no one else now but Hyunjin.

He walked over closer to me, kneeled and patted my head. "Everything's gonna be okay, Your Highness. I know I'm in no position to act like this to you, but I care about you, Your Highness, as my little sister. Now come, it's getting cold."

He helped me get up on my knees and guided to me into the house. I guess this is my new home now... But it wouldn't be when the people I love aren't here.

Hyunjin picked up a flower pot beside the door and what I saw was a key underneath it. He took the key and opened the door, telling me to get inside before him.

This house looks somewhat... Modern. It feels like stepping into a new era. Cream-colored painted walls, white ceiling with a chandelier hanging from it, the pillars painted gray — lighter in shade, and the black tainted sliding windows. I could say Earth is ahead of time.

With all the new things I've seen, what really caught my eye was a photo inside a frame hanging on the wall. It has me, my parents and my brother in it. I remember this day, when my dad went to explore earth along with his guard and came back with a camera, telling me that it could capture a moment in time and look back at it in the mere future anytime you want.

I slowly walked over to it, admiring how it has perfectly captured one of the precious moments I had with my family. It was timeless.

"Hey Hyunjin, have you ever been in this place? Because to me, it seems like you have been," I asked him, wondering.

"Yes, Your Highness, I have been. Both the King and Queen had prepared everything beforehand and told me all about what I should do on Earth to protect and serve you in case something like this would happen–" he handed me the keys "–you should have this, Your Highness. You're now the owner."

I looked at his hand holding the keys for a second before accepting it from him. I know it's just keys to the house, but it felt like taking full on responsibility to everything.

I am my father's descendant, therefore I should take the throne until I save my mom and my brother.

And from that day on, I have decided that soon when I turn 19 and get my own power, I'll go back to Kallix and avenge my family. I'll find a way.
