A/N: The moment I heard this song, I immediately thought of Arnav and Khushi. For me, it perfectly described how they would have felt at the end of their contract marriage if Arnav had never gotten to know the truth. I've tried my best to show their states of mind in this three-shot and I've hope that I've done enough justice to them.

Please note that this is NOT a full fledged fanfiction. As mentioned above, this is only an exploration of how Arnav and Khushi would have felt during their divorce. The ending is, therefore, open-ended and a little sad.

Khushi closed the door behind her and leaned against it, listening.

Her mother and aunt had stopped shouting her name, probably too exhausted to continue their search for an answer they now knew they would not get. A silence, no less than woeful, prevailed. It was broken solely by the rustle of the curtains as they moved to the rhythm of the wind, and seconds later, by the heavy sigh that escaped Khushi's lips. She pressed her head against the wood and closed her eyes.

Around an hour ago, Arnav had gathered his family in the vast hall of Shantivan, explaining that he had some important announcements to make. Khushi remembered too well, or rather still felt, the tension that had bubbled in that atmosphere, too constricting, too unbearable, as they waited for her family to arrive. Once they did, he revealed to them the news that still hung in the air, undigested and causing misery to those beyond the door of her bedroom--that she and him would be getting a divorce first thing tomorrow.

Khushi had positioned herself at a reasonable distance as Arnav spoke further, filling in the stunned quietness that ruled over the hall. He explained that the tiffs between them had grown unbearably frequent and that their differences had taken a significant toll on their marriage. There were cracks they couldn't repair, he'd say--every word of his mechanic and devoid of emotion as if they were coming from a pre-programmed robot and Khushi knew very well why.

Everything he said, every reason he gave, were all but an excuse to end a marriage that never truly existed. It was a cover-up to justify their separation after the completion of the six-months contract that he had once forced upon her.

Khushi supposed she should have interfered then. Perhpas, she should have taken the floor to apologise to everyone properly, given that all Arnav did as they cried and shouted was give them a steely look. But she had already resolved to herself that she would not intervene. Regardless of how insensitively Arnav broke the news to their families, she had already made it clear to him that she will not say a word to them.

"You started this mess. You end it."

She had said around a week before the termination of their contract marriage and had gotten a disinterested stare in return.
