Clarke POV

"Didn't you ever question why her army did not join in the attack on the mountain?" Echo pressed.

"They were attacked by a rival clan from the north, they came as soon as they were able" I say, diplomatically.

Echo shakes her head but before she could speak further I continued.

"You are more than welcome to stay with us for a few days while we discuss terms with the rest of the Council, but Lexa has given us no reason to distrust her. Octavia will you please show our guests to their room?"

Echo and her group nod wearily and allow Octavia to lead them out. When the others had passed Echo grabs my hand. "Thank you for your kindness Heda" her eyes dropping to the bracelet on my wrist.

"You have taken a Grounder as a husband and mate?" She asks surprised.

I shake my head. "No, I married from my own people, but we joined in the grounder tradition at the Moon Festival since we are now on the ground. " I explain with a smile.

She tilts her head in respect. "Congratulations Heda. I am sure you will be very happy. " And with that she turns to catch up to the others.

They are barely out of earshot when...

"You should have let her tell us about Lexa" Bellamy says a little angrily.

"She has given us no reason to not trust her."

"Why do you always follow her blindly? Use your head. Didn't you ever wonder how all of the trapped grounders got out? Why we were left alone?" Bellamy yells.

"Bellamy you have always had a problem trusting Le..." I try to calm him.

"And for good reason! Have you forgotten what happened to us when we first got here?!"

"Bell.."

"We both know Lexa wasn't telling the whole truth! You know what, forget it! I can't even talk to you right now!" And with that he stomps off. While I am left standing there wondering if I should follow him.

Bellamy POV

I shouldn't have yelled at Clarke but she has always been too trusting when it comes to Lexa.

My thoughts drift back to Mt. Weather...

~~~~ Flashback~~~~
I didn't even know how long I had been locked up, it could have been days. I had no idea where Lincoln was, only that I couldn't trust him in his present state. I had been bled once and I was a little groggy.
Somehow though, I had managed to break a piece of metal from my cage and pick the lock.
I had just climbed out when a lone guard came in. Echo screamed to warn me and I managed to knock the stun gun out of his hands before he was able to use it.
We started to fight, I was losing and I was sure I was going to die. I would never see Clarke again...
As I managed to throw him up against the cages Echo's arm slipped out and held him in place while I slowly choked the life out of him. I watched the light drain from his eyes and he dropped to the floor.
I had shot people before, but this was different. This was the first person I killed with my bare hands.
My own words came back to haunt me.
Who we are and who we need to be to survive are two different things.
I shook myself and searched his pockets. When I found his keys Echo was the first person I set free.
The other prisoners were going nuts, begging to be freed.
I hand her the keys. "Let them out, get them ready to fight but keep them quiet. We can't risk the noise bringing in more guards."
She shouts for them all to be quiet never taking her eyes off of me.
"What are you going to do?"
"I am going undercover" I say stripping the dead man of his uniform. "I have to get to my people on level 5. I will come back for you."
"Do you give your word?" She asks
"Yes"
When I am fully dressed I turn to her, "What do you think?"
She doesn't answer instead she rips the guards name tag off and throws her arms around me in a hug. "Be careful Bellamy of the SkaiKru. Don't let the mountain swallow you again."
She watches me with solomn eyes as I climb into the vent system before she continues to release the rest of the prisoners. I turn and leave praying that I will find the others before it is too late.
~~~~ end of flashback~~~~

Clarke POV

When I find Bellamy he is sitting leaning against a tree by the stream with his head in his hands. I sit next to him putting my hand on his shoulder to let him know I am there.
He doesn't say anything just pulls me into his arms

The embrace is anything but romantic, it is more like he is holding me as an anchor to keep from drowning.

"I know I have to tell you what happened there but I just can't do it right now. " he chokes out in a whisper.

"It might make you feel better, but I won't push you."

He continues to hold onto me not saying a word.

Bellamy POV

The Wind clan were not the only ones to seek an alliance with us

The Sea Clan, an ally to the Wind Clan sent their own delegation as did the Ice Clan. All three Clans seemed to have a problem with the Tree Kru, or at least with Lexa.

Lexa had sent her own delegation to renew and guard her alliance with us. It consisted of Indra, Noelle, Lexa's new second and Lincoln was their guard. Octavia was to be present to show the others an alliance was already in place through marriage, which was the strongest bond according to grounder custom.

Clarke was busy with the Sea Clan, Marcus and Abby with the Ice Clan while I was left to deal with Echo. I wasn't sure how I felt about that. I let her tag along with me as I went to check the traps.

"Bellamy? " she interrupted my thoughts.

"Yes?"

"I never really got the chance to thank you for saving me."

I sighed, " You saved me too. Without your help I would have been killed."

"I have not been entirely honest with you" she says, placing a hand on my arm causing me to stop walking.

"What are you talking about? "

"We didn't come just to make a treaty with you" she says stepping closer. "I wanted to see you Bellamy. To see if you were still the same man who freed me from the mountain or if you had been corrupted by Lexa."

I just looked at her, waiting.

She says nothing, taking a step closer as if to kiss me...

I take a step back not wanting to hurt her feelings but knowing I can't let this go further. "Echo, we can't do this. You know what this means don't you?" I ask, showing her the Joining bracelet.

She nods, "I had hoped that it was only for the safety of your clan that you married your Heda."

I shake my head, "We don't marry for politics. I love Clarke. " I say firmly.

She studies me for a moment. "You are a good man Bellamy of the Skai Kru and because of that there is something I need to tell you. "
