The Fourth of July was always a cousins tradition. Belly and Stevens Dad would visit as well as Susannah's husband. More importantly for me, my mom would stay for a couple days before having to get back home for work.

Susannah goes all out every year. The decorations, the food, the fireworks. The boys loved setting off the fireworks. I enjoy setting off two maybe three but the boys could go all night. My favorite is the sparklers. They're like little wands that you hold and they spark beautiful colors. They've always been my favorite part. Every year Belly and I take a picture holding out sparklers.

"Hey, guys." I say as I enter the kitchen.

"Hey." Belly smiles. Her smile is a little suspicious, almost as if she knows something that I don't.

"Hey." Jeremiah says, just as confused as I was. Belly continues to smirk as I begin to make toast.

"Okay, what's up?" I ask as I pop the bread into the toaster and go on to grab the jam from the refrigerator.

"What?" Belly asked.

"Belly, you're like the worst lier I know. What are you hiding?" I laughed.

"Jere, do you want the rest of my milk?" She asked, changing the subject.

"I thought you'd never ask." Jeremiah joked as he drank her left over cereal milk.

Just then, Conrad enters the kitchen. I prop myself up to sit on the counter. Conrad steps in front of me and reaches his arm past me. We make direct eye contact as he does. He ends up grabbing some kind of tool, in which he places behind his ear.

Conrad turns to Jeremiah, breaking our eye contact. "I'm gonna go wash the clams. Did you get the lighter fluid?" Conrad asks.

"Yeah, it's already on the beach." Jere responds. My toast pops up and I hop off of the counter. I grab both pieces and place them on a plate before I start to spread the jam.

"Are we done with the portrait?" I heard steven ask as he and Susannah enter the room.

"Yeah, for today." She said. "But you do look good in a dress shirt, Steven. Which reminds me. If Belly doesn't hurry up and ask Cam to the ball, you should take her."

"Ew, no way." Belly said.

"Yeah, I agree. And I'm already taking Shayla." Steven said.

"Aw, Stevie boy has a date to the ball?" I asked as I pinched his cheek. I laugh at the some what flustered boy as I head to the table and place my plate down. I head back to get a glass of orange juice.

"You're going to the debutant ball?" Laurel asked.

"Yes." Steven replied.

"As an escort?" Laurel asked once more.

"Wrap your head around it, mom. Shaylas coming today with Nicole and Gigi, so you'll meet her." Steven said.

"You invited Nicole and Gigi?" I asked belly as I placed the juice back in the refrigerator.

"Yeah, I thought it would be fun to hang out." She said. "So that everyone can meet eachother." Belly laughed at her statement.

"And what is that supposed to mean?" I asked heading back to the table.

"Nothing." She smirked as she had earlier.

"Oh, don't forget that Miss Covington's first dance rehearsal is tomorrow, so, uh, tick-tock." Susannah said. "Both of you."

"I'm asking Cam today, actually." Belly said.

"I don't know my kids anymore." Laurel said.

"Wheres my mom and Josh?" I asked before I realized that I only had half a piece of toast left. I look over at Jeremiah and find him pretending to be distracted. "You jerk." I laugh as I kick him under the table.
