I tapped my foot impatiently as I waited for the line to buy my lunch to move. It was now lunch time and I had managed to avoid Nicholas until now.
"Hey." Someone behind me said.
"What?" I snapped knowing who it was and I did not bother to turn around.
"Whoa! Careful I don't want my head to be bitten off!" Nicholas said with a mock pained expression.
I rolled my eyes and turned around "What do you want?"
He raised an eyebrow at my voice and said "Go up."
"What?" I said irritated.
"I said go up. The line moved." He said rolling his eyes.
I narrowed my eyes, pursed my lips and went up in the line.
"Are you going to apologize?" He said rocking back on his heels.
I raised my eyebrow at his question.
"You practically embarrassed me in Math’s class." He said quietly.
I sighed and said “You embarrassed yourself and I am not going to apologize. I told you I don't like you and you refuse to accept it."
I finally got to the top of the line and I ordered my lunch which consists of two slices of pizza, a cupcake and an apple and a soda. I left without telling Nicholas goodbye.
I went to sit at my usual lunch table in the noisy cafeteria. Kayla and I sit there. Omg! I cannot believe I forgot to tell you about Kayla. Ok Kayla is my best friend; she has been my best friend since we were in diapers.
We did practically everything together. I can still remember the time we bathed together when we were six, and the times we spent over at each other’s house having sleepovers.
We were tighter than tight. We were like sisters. Even though we looked nothing like each other. I was fair, with brown wavy locks tumbling down my back with brown eyes and rosy cheeks and full pink lips. Kayla on the other hand had an olive complexion with wavy brown hair and beautiful green eyes. See....no resemblance.
"Hey what's shaking bacon?" Kayla said interrupting my thoughts. Speak of the devil.
"Hey Kayla…" I said grinning. "I -"
"Melissa! I wasn't done talking to you!" Nicholas said interrupting my conversation. What is up with people interrupting me? I looked up at him and was pleased to see he was fuming with fury. My smile vanished instantly, even though I was kind of happy inside.
"Well... I was done talking to you." I said calmly.
His eyes flashed and then his face was expressionless. He sighed long and deep and sat down across from me, next to Kayla. My best friend eyebrows raised but she stayed silent.
"When are going to start tutoring?" He asked quietly, his voice low. His face was still blank and I felt uncomfortable under the intense gaze he had on me.
"Well...I really don't know. We'll have to make arrangements. We have completely different schedules." I said after taking a bite out of my pizza.
He raised a dark brow at my business tone and said “Ok, so... how about today around four o’ clock."
I frowned, “It’s too short notice. I would have to speak with my parents first.”
He sighed “Okay then…How about tomorrow? Same time?"
"Hmm...That’s ok I guess." I said twirling my hair absentmindedly.
"Fine…" He murmured. He stood up, and I asked “You know where I live?"
