Chapter 6

Sydney was going to get mad at me. When that Russell guy busted into the room, I thought she was going to rip his head off. She quickly covered my eyes and told me to keep them closed until she got back from wherever she was planning on burying Russell's body. Yeah, I didn't do that. The initial shock and surprise of the burst of the light had worn off, and I knew that the room was still dark.

The bandage had been placed back over my eyes, but not secured, so I was easily able to peel it back again. I slowly opened my eyes once more, blinking rapidly to get more lubrication before taking in my room. It wasn't anything special, but as Heidi had said, I could see my laptop bag in the corner, next to what looked like a little bag with new clothes that Heidi must have brought in. That would be handy. Even better, after a few minutes, everything was coming into focus. Now, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to handle the light, but so far, I was doing well in the dim room. I was pretty sure I wasn't supposed to have done that on my own though. Feeling a little bit better, I lay back and covered my eyes, waiting for Sydney so I could surprise her a little.

I couldn't wait to see her!

When she came back, she didn't hesitate to sit back on the edge of the hospital bed. "Hey Nai'a, how are your eyes feeling? I'm so sorry about that interruption!"

"I'm fine Syd, I really am!" I promised with a small smile. "I might have tested my eyes a little while you were gone, and I could see pretty well. Can I show you?"

I heard her sharp intake of breath before she chuckled. "What am I going to do with you?" Yay! She wasn't mad!

"I can think of a few things," my tongue decided to say, before my brain could stop it.

I heard her snort of laughter before a string of giggles. "Nai'a, you're really too much. But, in a good way. I swear I feel like a kid around you."

I started to blush, and I couldn't help but smile wide at that admission. "That's a good thing, right?" I hoped it was!

"Yes, its good. But it's a little scary too," she admitted, carefully pulling back the bandages on my eyes. "Now let me see those pretty eyes of yours."

The thought of her wanting to see my eyes made me feel all warm inside, and I loved it. I didn't wait this time, since I'd already had them open in the dark, and opened them right up, gazing at the women whose face was hovering only a foot or so above mine. She was beautiful, and for a moment I could just stare.

When I say beautiful, I don't mean swimsuit model gorgeous or something. I mean a fresh faced true beauty with a dimpled smile, a handful of faint freckles, twinkling blue eyes and blonde hair pulled back into a ponytail. I could stare at her all day.  "Wow," I finally whispered. "Well, you were certainly worth the wait."

She reached her hand towards me, lightly brushing some hair from atop my head out of my eyes. I was glad they'd only shaved the one side! "Has anyone ever told you that you have gorgeous eyes?"

I had my father's tanned skin, and my mom's hazel eyes, which made for a pretty nice combination. Heidi had always told me that they were my best feature, and they'd been called pretty before, but I'd never had anyone look down into them like she was right now. She had a smile that seemed to keep growing and growing as she looked at me, and I never wanted her eyes to stop looking at me. "Not like that, no."

She cleared here her throat, shaking her head from side to side. "You can't look at me like that Nai'a," she whispered. "This is already hard to do."

"I'm sorry Syd, I am. But I don't think I can look at you any other way," I admitted. It wasn't as though I enjoyed being in a situation where I really wanted to go out on a date with someone but couldn't. And that they were so nice and pretty that it made me weak in the knees just being near them. Not that I was standing for the knees to be an issue of course, but I knew.

"It's okay. I'm not being any better. We're just going to have to be much more careful when Dr. Cunningham is in here. I kind of like my job!"

"I know, and I'll be good," I promised. I didn't want to ever hurt her!

"Are you going to behave while I do the sponge bath? Then we can see about light sensitivity," she asked me with a smirk.

Oh man, I completely forgot about the sponge bath! As soon as she reminded me, I felt another blush coming over my features and a warmth in my belly. I was already excited, and she hadn't touched me! "I'll do the best I can, but it might be a little dicey!"

"If it helps, I'm in the same boat," she admitted. "We'll try to make it easy for each other."

No, that didn't help! Knowing she'd be struggling only made me want her more! But what could I do? I simply nodded with a smile. "I guess we'll do the best we can."

"Well stay there, and I'll get everything ready." As she got up to walk into the bathroom, I slowly turned my head to get my first look at the rest of her, and it didn't help my heart's condition in the least. Even in her purple scrubs I could see that she had curves in all the right places, with a large chest, and flared hips. Oh man, I'd love to hang onto those hips!

I heard water running in the bathroom, and Syd came back in with a stack of washcloths and towels while it continued to fill whatever was collecting it in there. "Nai'a, do you know how we're going to do this?"

I shook my head. I'd heard of a sponge bath, but never actually seen one. She didn't even have a sponge! "Nope!"

"Okay. I'm going to put towels under you to try and keep the bed dry," she started. "Then I'll help you out of your clothes and I'll wash one section of you at a time. We'll skip your hair today since Dr. Cunningham will want to check the bandages first. But once we have you all cleaned up, I'll help you into new underwear and a new gown. We'll be changing the bandages after lunch to see how those are healing too. Do you have any questions?"

"I'll be naked?" I confirmed, making us both blush. "Are you washing.. umm... everything?"

"Yes Nai'a, I'm going to wash everything. Don't worry, it isn't anything I haven't seen before," she stated while looking away from me.

"Damn, shouldn't we go on a date first?" I had to try to make light of the situation, because I was worried about what my body's reaction to her touching me would be. In bed, I usually liked to be in control, and I wasn't used to having anyone take care of me like this in the least.

She glared down on me, her hands on her hips. "That is exactly what you're not supposed to say to make this easier!"

"I can't help it!" I complained. "Sometimes my tongue just says things on its own!"

She huffed out, blowing away some hair that had escaped from her ponytail, and then went back to the bathroom. Moments later, the water stopped running, and the came back with a basin of warm water and a bar of soap. "Okay, lets get the towels down."

She helped me sit up, placing a towel behind me, then pulled back the blanket and sheets to do under my feet. I got to roll left and right to put more towels under my butt and torso, and I was ready. She was about to take my hospital gown off and see me naked. The woman I'm crushing on and flirting with is about to strip me, and I can't return the favor. Nope, I'm not freaking out, it just seems that way.

She took a breath and sat down next to me. "Nai'a, I'm going to do the best as I can to keep this professional. Are you going to be okay with this, or would you rather me get another nurse to do it?"

I quickly shook my head, thankfully not hurting my head in the process. "No! No, I'd like you to do it. I'll do my best to not make it weird too." There was no way I wanted another nurse to do this. I may have wanted to try to make it professional, but I also knew I wanted to see what Syd's expressions were like when she saw me and touched me, and how her soft hands felt. Okay, maybe I wouldn't be as professional as she might have liked. But I'd at least try not to moan!

Much.

She gave me a shy smile and nodded happily. "I'll try not to stare too much."

"Stare all you like."
