I sat there staring at Abby's still body. Her breathing was even and she looked so peaceful. I really would've thought that she'd been asleep aside from the air tubes and the IV needles all over the place. She had a dark purple, bruise in the right side of her forehead near her temple and the was a tiny scratch along her cheek that was fading now. I kept crying because I couldn't get a hold of myself. I wasn't there to protect her and I wasn't sure if I could live with myself. "Pacen?" Doctor Walburn entered the room.
"Yes?" I rose to my feet and sniffled.
"Have a seat, son." He insisted as he lounged through the room and checked on Abby's monitors. "I've got some bad news." He announced as I settled back into my chair.
"What do you mean?" I asked worried.
"It seems as though Abigail's condition is fatal." He added another bag of IV.
"What do you mean?" I leaned forward.
"I mean, her brain activity is low."
My eyebrows shot up. "Are you trying to say that she won't wake up?" My voice wavered.
He nodded his head. "It is still early so there might be a chance that her condition might improve..." He trailed off.
"But you doubt it?" I inferred.
He pouted. "Like I said, it's too early to tell."
"Doctor Walburn, the girl's parents are here." One of the nurses announced. Doctor Walburn excused himself before exiting. I moved closer to Abby. Once I was settled by her side I held onto her hand.
"God, Abs, I really wish it could be me instead of you." I cried. "Abby? Can you hear me?" I whispered to her.
Matt and I were holding hands, talking about each others past when my phone rang. "Hello?" I answered on the second ring.
"Hey, Amy! It's Drew. I have to tell you something, but promise me you won't panic." Andrew said softly.
I looked up at Matt before answering okay.
"Devin and Abby were kidnapped earlier. We just found them and we're headed to Demure Hospital. Come as soon as you can."
"What!" I shrieked.
"Hey! You promised you wouldn't freak!" He said. I ignored him and hung up.
"What's wrong?" Matt asked. I hadn't noticed that I dropped his hand. I felt so hollow.
"I have to get the hospital." I started walking to the door.
"Okay, I'll give you a ride." Matt offered. "What's going on?" He asked.
"My brother's in the hospital." I felt my chest fill with pain.
His expression softened. "What happened." His voice careful. It felt a little bizarre. No one had ever spoken to me like that.
"Apparently he was kidnapped." I sighed. Matt reached over the seat to hold my hand. I stared up at him.
"I'm so sorry." His voice sincere

I went straight to Devin's room. Brad was sitting by his side...crying? Devin held on to his hand and they were talking. "Are you alright?" I panted.
Devin nodded. "You should check on Abby. She's the one in a coma."
My eyebrows eye shot up. "She's in a coma!?!" I ran out the room and into the hall searching for Abby's room. Matt wasn't far behind me.
"Abigail?" I heard Pacen's distressed voice from the hall. I froze and watched him interact with her. He held her hand lovingly. He never did that with me. He was tucking his hair behind her ear. "Abby, if you wake up for me I promise I'll finally let you beat me at basketball." He pleaded. "Or I'll buy you your favorite bag of chips." He covered his face in his hand and sobbed.
"Is that Pacen?" Matt whispered beside me. I nodded.
"Abby, please come back to me." He cried again.
"Wow, he must really love her." Matt padded my shoulder to offer me some comfort. "Maybe we should leave them alone?" He suggested. I quickly agreed and followed Matt into a hall. He walked to one of the cots and helped me up.
He sat down next to me. "Does it hurt?" He asked.
"Does what hurt?" I asked unsure.
"Seeing him with her?" He drowned. I studied his light eyes for a moment and smiled.
"Not until I met you." I wrapped my hand around his.
He grinned. He leaned forward and gently placed his lips on mine. "It just hurts to see him suffer." I said looking at the doubled-doors. "I wonder if she'll ever wake up."
I felt emotionally exhausted. Crying and begging all day can truly take on you. I laid beside Abs and held her in my arms after her parents left. They went home to pick up some of Abby's stuff. Abby moaned and twisted. I felt my body tense as she moved again. "Abby?" I whispered, tucking her hair back.
"Who's Abby?" Abigail asked in a scratchy voice.
