I'd Rather Be In Love With... You Part 60

Chris hadn’t really spoken to me since then.

We kinda went our separate ways. He didn’t say a word as he got changed and I kept silent changing in the wardrobe as he changed in the bathroom. Everything was weird but even I had the feeling I wasn’t supposed to talk but it wasn’t a bad feeling, it was like Chris was trying to prove something to me, I just wasn’t catching it.

By the time I came out of the wardrobe dressed, Chris was just leaving.

I think it was one of the first times I ever saw him with a suit on! And you have no clue how hard it was to keep my feet glued to the ground and not to run over to him and rip his clothes off! But yet, maybe everything that was said just made it a little easier.

Zara’s bracelet was still around my wrist against my pale skin and so was Chris’s necklace except this time, they were in full view.

The dark blue dress I was wearing was shoulder less, hanging from my breasts exposing my neck and arms. It clung to my chest tightly before flowing down around my legs like waves, stopping just after my knees. There was a slit up my right thigh exposing more as I walked and the black heels added something to the outfit that wasn’t just heels.

I let my hair down, curled from the water and applied a bit of light makeup.

To be honest, I wasn’t in the mood for dress up.

“Hey,” Chris whispered as I greeted him downstairs in the kitchen.

I smiled weakly, noticing his eyes look me up and down, longing circling them but even he wasn’t really there, his voice was down and he looked . . . scared.

Scared of what I would choose.

 And now, so was I.

“Do you want something quick to eat before we go? I’m just guessing, Nick’s party foods usually consist of pizza and chips.” He smiled sheepishly, his hand flying to the back of his head. “I can fix something up real quick if you want?”

“No it’s ok. I think I can live with pizza and chips.” I smiled back noticing only then the honking of the car outside. “Plus, I think it’s time we go.”

Chris nodded and I began to walk out of the kitchen and it was only then that I noticed the suitcases lined by the door.

I came to a stop, my eyes wide as I turned almost banging into Chris as he took a step back.

“You’re leaving? Now?” I asked, again my eyes blurring.

“I’m leaving after the party.” His voice turned to a whisper as he looked to the ground away from me.

“But I thought-“

“Plane tickets already been booked.”

“But I thought you’d have more time . . .” I trailed off noticing my use of words and saw his eyes shoot up to me, pain slapping across his face as he realised I just gave him his answer. I didn’t say anything else. I don’t think I could, not with the lump already formed in my throat.

“We should get going now; we’ll be late if we don’t.” I nodded and followed Chris outside.

As I sat in the backseat of the car, I watched Chris and the drive pack his things into the boot, my heart racing with every glance.
