Chapter 34 Echo of the Wind Clan

Lexa POV
2 days after the Blue Moon

Their stones were glowing! It's a sign!
I had held out hope that this alliance would prove to be a good thing for my people. And for me. A way for me to gain power with the other clans. To get technology and medicine from the SkaiKru, but when word gets out about this, and it will, they will want to form their own alliances with the SkaiKru.

Maybe they will all unite together and have Clarke as their Sovereign Heda ruling with Bellamy at her side. The clan who singlehandedly defeated Mt Weather.

Octavia would stay with them of course. The three of them an unstoppable force while I am cast aside.

I leave my chambers and head out alerting only my personal guard.

Octavia POV

It has been four days since the wedding. Neither of us took time for a real honeymoon as there is still so much to be done before winter sets in. We woke up this morning to see the light dusting of snow covering the ground.

White, cold and wet. It may have been pretty but I was unimpressed. A few people had fun making snowballs and I will admit I hit Bell in the back of the head with one too. He couldn't hit me back because I am carrying his future niece or nephew. He scowled at me but I just stuck my tongue out at him making Clarke laugh. Thankfully the snow melted by noon.

Today's work centered around gathering in the last of our crops, sending out a couple of hunting parties and stocking up on firewood for the camps winter supply.

Clarke and I had decided to keep quiet about what happened to us the night of the Blue Moon. Our stones had stopped the intermittent glowing thing, but it seems she and I had a deeper connection. If I thought something directly at her she could understand it or hear it. If I touched her and concentrated on a vision, she could see it too.
She can't direct het own thoughts to me though.

It is more than a little weird, but we are learning to deal with it. Who knows it could be useful in the future?

As we are making our way back from the stream with the last of our herbs, we noticed a crowd gathering at the gate. We set our stuff down outside medical and go to see what is going on.

Bellamy POV

I had just finished dropping off some food from the traps at the mess hall so they could be cleaned and preserved for the winter when Miller came running up to tell me there was a delegation from the Wind Clan and that the leader had asked for me personally.

I was a little puzzled since I had never met any grounders other than Lexa's clan. I headed towards the gate after telling Miller to find Clarke.

As I get closer to the gate I can hear a woman's voice saying she will only speak with "Bellamy of the Skai Kru, the hero of Mt. Weather."
I had really tried to block out everything that happened to me in that damn mountain but I could almost recognize her voice. When I broke through the crowd and caught sight of her the woman looked at me and smiled.

I recognized her instantly. This woman had been with me in the harvesting chamber in the cage right next to mine. She had been the first grounder I had freed.

I had to admit she was pretty, now that she wasn't covered in blood, bruises and half starved. I extended my hand to her in greeting, " You are welcome Echo. Of the Wind Clan? " I say uncertainly.

She nods, "I am honored that you remember my name Bellamy. " she replies warmly, almost shyly. "Yes, I am of the Wind Clan, I had been visiting my sister Tea, who had been married into the Tree Kru when I was captured by the mountain men." She offered by way of explanation.

As we continue talking Clarke and Octavia push through the crowd and Octavia raises her eyebrows at the sight of me standing so close to Echo. I ignore it and start to make the introductions.
They are from the Wind Clan and they are seeking an alliance with us." I explain to Clarke.

"I am Echo, and this is Maeve, my second and Xander my guard" she says gesturing to a girl with long brown hair and a burley looking man with dirty blond hair. She extends her hand to Clarke with a smile.

"Echo was in Mt Weather with me" I say shortly, answering the unasked question hanging in the air and trying not to flinch from the memories those words generate.

Clarke's eyes widen for an instant and then she grasps Echo's hand without missing a beat. "I am Clarke, this is Octavia and you know Bellamy. Come, you are welcome here. Have you travelled far? Perhaps you would like to eat and rest for a bit before we discuss how an alliance can benefit both of our peoples. " she speaks while leading them further into camp.

I follow them lost in my own thoughts, glad that Clarke is taking over. I had never told Clarke or Octavia what happened to me in that Mountain. Most of my restless nights were due to dreams and flashes that still haunt me.

Clarke POV

The minute Bellamy says Mt Weather I feel my heart stop for a minute.

Bellamy has never really told me what happened to him, when he was briefly captured in that place. I hadn't pushed him, but I knew he was still tormented with dreams and my unasked questions had lingered. I wondered momentarily if Echo might shed some light on the subject, but then I reminded myself that I barely knew her. Why would she tell me anything? Bellamy would be angry. Better to just ask him myself...

As we entered the cafeteria, Bellamy and Octavia went to bring some food and drink for our guests while I gestured for them to sit down.

"So" I begin. " How may we help you and what terms are you offering? "

"As I have said, I am Echo from the Wind Clan. We live about a days journey to the south. We have a treaty with the Sea Clan and we have all heard of the heroes of Mt Weather. " she pauses casting a glance at Bellamy, her eyes sliding over his Joining bracelet without comment. "We wish to remain at peace and trade with you. We have brought some gifts for you as a gesture of good faith. We were allied to the Tree Kru some time back."

"Are you not allied to them now?" Bellamy asks before I can ask the same question.

"No, we have not been allied to them since the incident at Mt. Weather. "

"Why?" Bellamy interjects again.

"Because they betrayed their alliance with your people and left you to die" Echo answers as if we should already know. "They can no longer be trusted while the Commander is in charge."

Octavia, Bellamy and I all exchange looks, Octavia stares directly at me.

I always knew Lexa was a lying bitch!

A/N

Is Echo a friend or a foe? Expect at least one flashback of Bellamy in Mt. Weather. This will not follow the show exactly.
