Chapter 22-Aftermaths of the Mark
I blink a few times, trying to clear the sleep from my eyes so I can see.
I feel a slight pain in my neck and I immediately reach up and place my hand on it.
I can feel faint bite marks grazing my skin.
I let my hand drop down on the floor next to me before using it to push myself up from the ground. I can faintly make out the outline of a tree, and I start to drag myself towards it.
"Here, let me help you with that." Before I can process anything, I'm lifted up in the air. A small squeal escapes me and I grasp onto the persons shirt with wide eyes.
I hear a chuckle and my eyes connect with an amused pair of green eyes. I punch his arm as hard as I can, but it probably felt like I barely grazed him.
I feel exhausted and drained, but I also feel happy. I feel content and at peace.
He places me against the tree before sitting right next to me.
My eyes finally start to adjust to the darkness, and I realize we are in the same place that we had met so many times before.
I notice the huge grin on Tobias's face and I can't help but feel a little self conscious.
"Why are you smiling like that?" I ask with a small frown. I hesitantly stretch my hand up to my face to see if there's something on my face.
"What do you mean?" He asks, his grin still in place.
"You're smiling way too much, and no offense, but it starting to creep me out. You look like a serial killer," I admit with a sheepish smile.
He throws his head back and laughs.
When he finally stops laughing at my expense, he gives me a warm look. He brushed back a piece of my hair.
His eyes are soft, and bright, and the intensity of them takes my breath away.
"We are finally bonded. No matters what happens, I will always be yours, and you will always be mine," Tobias exclaims with an excited grin. I can't help but grin back at him. His happiness is infectious.
I move slightly and wince when my neck starts to sting.
"That's wonderful! When is the pain going to go away?" I ask while I reach up to the bite mark.
Tobias frowns and moves closer to me.
"It hurts? I didn't know it would hurt you. I'm so sorry," he states with wide eyes. He removes my hand and gently places his massive hand on my neck.
He slowly starts to massage the irritated skin, and I let a sigh if relief as the pain subsides.
"It's alright. It doesn't hurt that much. It's mostly uncomfortable," I mumble as a tilt my head to give him better access. It's the truth. It stings a little, but the bite feels very uncomfortable and foreign to me.
Tobias lets out a hum in response, his attention on my neck.
It's silent for a few moments before I speak up.
"What's going to happen now?"
"We're one step closer to taking over our pack. We have to start training soon. Blake and I want to make sure you will be safe, no matter what."
