"Carly!"
I stopped in my tracks watching the small girl bouncing down the steps from the front door. Her wild curls were swinging around her smiling face.
"Hi, Rory." I knelt down and caught her when she jumped into my arms and wrapped her small arms around my neck.
"I missed you," she whispered into my hair.
I squeezed her a little tighter before holding her out in front of me by her shoulders. "I missed you too, sweetie." I looked up when Mia approached, gracefully descending the steps in her high heels.
"Carly," she smiled. "Hi, I'm happy you guys made it safely."
My eyes scanned over the large estate. It was a whole mansion, probably large enough to house a small army. "This place is beautiful."
Mia nodded and reached her hand out to me. "Let me show you around; I'm sure Vittorio doesn't mind carrying in your luggage."
I glanced over my shoulder and he gave me a prompt nod, already in the process of emptying the trunk. I got up and slipped my hand into Mia's, following her with Aurora close behind.
The mansion was even more impressive than I'd expected. It had two large kitchens, a dining room suited for plenty, seventeen bedrooms with ensuites, and four lounges; one of which had a bar – six offices and a huge backyard with a tennis court and a pool. The interior was rather modern and kept in black, white, and dark olive green. The grand staircase leading upstairs to the bedrooms was made of shiny, white marble.
Mia told me that the house had been a wedding present to her from Vincenzo. It really was one glamorous present.
"This is where you'll be staying." Mia turned a doorknob and pushed the double doors open.
I stared in awe at my temporary bedroom. It was large; it held a queen size bed, a large wooden wardrobe, a desk with a chair, and a small loveseat pushed up against one of the walls. Beautiful glass doors opened up onto a small balcony and another door led into the connecting bathroom.
My suitcase had been neatly placed on top of the flower-patterned bedspread. I mouthed a wow and spun around to face Mia.
"I hope you'll like it here," she said. "I took the liberty of stocking your wardrobe with some bathing suits; in case you wanted to use the pool."
"Thank you so much," I smiled softly.
"Anytime." Mia took a step back and her hand rested on the door handle. "I'll leave you to get settled in."
With a short goodbye, she left me there on my own. I started out by opening my suitcase, slowly sifting through my clothes, and giving them all a designated place in the large closet. Mia wasn't kidding about the bathing suits. I counted at least five one-pieces and three bikinis.
Once my clothes were sorted, I grabbed the hygiene and makeup products I'd brought and headed into the bathroom. I hadn't expected the bathroom to be as luxurious as it was; with a large bathtub, a long counter by the sink, and a huge mirror. Folded towels had been laid ready for me on the counter and different lotions were made available to me.
