A group of girls with different colored hair and questionable clothing sang as they performed a choreographed dance. From the corner of my eye, I could see Alex silently nodding his head to the beat. The group continued to perform, feeding into their ego and cheering after every note. So this is what music has come to...

Julie noticed us and made her way towards us.

"What are you doing here?" Julie questioned silently.

"We wanna see you stick it to the man," Luke grinned excitedly. "Isn't that right, guys?"

"Yeah, we're here for you Julie," I smile, earning one in return from the young girl.

"Man, I miss high school," Reggie breathed as the act onstage continued.

As the song ended, cheers erupted throughout the gym. The girls onstage smiled and waved, "Thank you!"

"We love you, Carrie!" Someone in the crowd shouted.

"Oh, I love you too!" The pink haired girl replied. "Make sure to check out my new YouTube video. Oh, go Bobcats."

"YouTube video?" Alex whispered to me. Clueless, I just gave him a half-hearted shrug.

"Thank you, Dirty Candy," a woman, possibly a teacher, announced as she entered the stage.

"Now's your chance. Go talk to her. See you in music class," Julie's friend smiled as she disappeared into the crowd.

"That was sweet."

Awkward silence flooded the room until the woman on stage cleared her throat.

"Ok then. Before we let you go, we have a few more announcements..." she began.

"What are you waiting for?" Alex nudged Julie.

"Yeah. I mean, you look really nervous," Luke said, "Like yack in a bowl nervous."

"Dude..." I trailed off.

"I just don't think I had enough time to work on the song," Julie admitted.

"I wouldn't have given you the song if I didn't think you were gonna rock it," Luke assured her.

"Now, there's a piano on that stage with your name on it," I smile. "Go for it."

On stage, a few students continued on with school announcements, "We look forward to our girls swim team defending our state championship. Go, Bobcats!"
