the simplest things were capable of setting him off. causing a flood work of unpleasant thoughts. as stupid as it sounded, even a russian accent could throw him back to the base. getting asked the same question over and over again. giving the same answer because holy fuck he was just a teenager who worked at an ice cream parlor! but with every answer came a slap to the face. a punch to the gut. and he was unable to do anything about it. he was helpless as they hurt him. helpless as they hurt robin. nothing he could do but take it and listen. and afterwords steve didn't even know that russians would do what they did to him. he didn't know that weird and unsettling noises would cause his chest to tighten. fearing some demo-animal was coming for him. he didn't know that was normal for someone to feel after going through something traumatic. so he sat in silence while his friends seemingly went on with their lives.
