She joined Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in the early days of World War II, and she had a passion to prove herself that caught Steve Rogers' eye. But the US military had their eye on Adriana as well, recognizing she was a woman of unique potential; she had a latent X-gene, meaning she had the potential to develop superhuman powers. The US Government drafted Adriana into a special unit which was sent to a classified location, where an atomic bomb was being tested. Her body was flooded with radiation, and she was transformed, her powers either created or unlocked.
Then Adriana's mind had developed an innate connection to the Web of Life and Destiny, and to all insect life across the planet. Unfortunately the experience drove her insane, and she was committed to a lunatic asylum. She was held there for years, forgotten, until she escaped in the 1950s and went underground
