You're a poison and I know that; it's the truth

"Valente, we can't just let her leave now, can we?"

I could hear Kaleb's condescending voice through the door.

"Of course, we fucking can't," Dante sounded almost desperate.

"Am I really the only one who thinks she's cute?"

"Shut up, Colby!" The three others shouted in unison.

"Jesus, fine. I was just stating my opinion, but fine."

I leaned back against the door. I was done for. They'd been arguing for at least twenty minutes. Kaleb mostly chimed in with ways to kill me, while Dante had suggested they'd sell me, to spare me the fate of death. Colby had mostly just argued to keep me, saying he'd feed and walk me if he had to. Vittorio had been eerily quiet.

"She doesn't deserve to die." My heart dropped when he finally spoke. "I'll bring her with me to New Orleans. Consult Vince."

The others were quiet for a while. Too quiet.

"You know he's got the final say. If he says kill, you must obey orders," Dante spoke in a hushed voice. "He probably won't be happy."

"Oh, I bet he'll love her!"

"Colby!"

I knocked my head back against the door and groaned in frustration. I could hear a snicker from behind the door, but the sinner soon cleared his throat.

The door opened, and I fell back, landing on the soft carpet. All four were staring down at me, only one of them smiling warmly.

"You're going with me to New Orleans tomorrow. We'll sleep here tonight." Vittorio reached down and grabbed my hand, pulling me to my feet. "But I bet you already knew that."

"I'll cook!" Colby was buzzing with excitement as he dashed down the corridor. The other guys groaned.

"Do you like the food, Carly?" Colby looked at me expectantly with his chestnut gaze. He was sitting right across from me with Vittorio on his left and Dante on his right.

I nodded half-heartedly and looked down at the slices of microwave pizza. I glanced at Kaleb out of the corner of my eye. He was poking his food with his fork, a grim expression on his otherwise handsome face. I reached for the water just as he did the same, and I winced as the ring on his right pinky finger nicked me.

"Damn, sorry," he muttered and pulled his hand back. He gave me a small smile and looked back down.

I eyed him for a few seconds before I looked away. We sat in silence for a few minutes. I could feel a headache creeping in on me.

"Vince is going to be pissed," Dante muttered into his glass before taking a sip.

"Shut it," Vittorio spat and shoved a bite of food into his mouth, chewing aggressively.

"He ain't gonna be mad at Piero," Colby said and smiled at Vittorio.

"He'll probab-"

I shook my head. My head was already aching enough to make me dizzy. I stood up unsteadily and excused myself. I staggered out of the dining room and into the corridor. My hand ran along the wall as I slowly made my way to the room I'd woken up in. I sat on the bed and rested my head in my hands.
