I carried Anna upstairs to her bedroom and gently placed her on her bed. I looked down at the delicate girl before me. "I'm so sorry for this. I hope you can forgive me." I whispered. I hovered for a little while before slowly turning around and exiting the room, shutting the door behind me.
When I reached the bottom of the stairs I saw David and Carine sitting on the sofa. I sat on the recliner furthest away from them. I could see David looking at me out of the corner of my eye. If eyes could kill I'd be dead.
"Well do you have something to say?" David raised his eyebrow at me.
No" I huffed.
I didn't know what to say.
His face hardened. "Explain what happened to Anna." I stared at my hands. David jumped up and grabbing me by the collar of my shirt. "I am so sick of your shit Harry!"
Carine grabbed his arm "David stop! Let me talk to him...... alone." She begged.
He looked at her then back at me. He loosened his grip on me. She nodded. He let go of me and glared at me. He turned around and went upstairs.
Carine motioned for me to sit and sat down across from me.
"look, Carine, I'm......"
"It's okay Harry."
I gave her a confused look. "What?"
"I said it's okay." She said.
"But I.... what happened to Anna was.."
She grabbed my hand. "Harry I'm just disappointed."
I frowned. "I'm sorry." She shook her head.
"I'm disappointed that I didn't tell Anna about these things and tell her about how to be safe and careful in the real world."
A tear ran down her face. "I just thought that if I was strict on her and kept her from doing things that it would keep her from getting hurt."
"Carine it's my fault. I shouldn't have made her sneak out." She sobbed. "Her father told me that what I was trying to do was wrong."
"Carine It's okay for you to want to keep her safe but she's growing up. She's sixteen and I think you should talk about drugs and sex with her so she could learn and know better."
She put her hand on my shoulder. "Harry you're exposing her to things that I can't teach her. You're the cause of this."
"What are you saying?"
She sighed."Harry, I want you to do something for me." I nodded.
She stood up. "Stay away from my daughter." She walked away and headed upstairs leaving me to process what she just said.
Carine is right. If I have to stay away from Anna for her sake then I guess that's what I'll have to do.
