Ⓟ︎Ⓐ︎Ⓡ︎Ⓣ︎ Ⓣ︎Ⓦ︎Ⓞ︎THE ENTIRE GROUP SAT IN the Byersʼ living room as the kids explained all the things they knew about what they were calling the Upside Down, which happened to be a lot more than any of the teens and adults knew. Cole, as always, stayed silent, but sat with a content smile, looking up to the boys he considered friends. Being the youngest of the group, everyone was always looking out for him.
And, although none of the older people knew what the hell the kids meant by acrobats and fleas, they understood the main point of it. "Is there any way that you could..." Joyce looked at Eleven, eyes watering, "that you could reach Will? That you could talk to him in this —"
"The Upside Down," the younger girl said.
"The Upside Down. Yeah."
Eleven nodded.
"And my friend Barbara?" added Nancy. "Can you find her, too?"
However, instead of Eleven nodding this time, it was Cole. Cole nodded.
Kaliʼs eyes narrowed. "No, you're not doing that," she told him quickly, knowing that his powers weren't nearly on the same level as Elʼs where. He'd get exhausted after one little thing, this could really damage him. The kid was already damaged enough.
Dustin furrowed his brows. "What do you mean?" he asked, voice high. "Cole's cool as shit."
Eleven, Lucas and Mike all nodded in agreement. Cole beamed.
Nancy smiled lightly, knowing that the boy had never had friends before. She was glad her brother and his friends had looked out for him.
Kali sighed, resting her hands on her knees as she leaned fowards, looking at Cole. "Do you want to do this?" she asked, her voice almost soothing as she spoke to him.
Nancy smiled again. She'd nearly forgotten how much softer Kaliʼs voice was when she was addressing her younger brother. She always admired how much Kali cared for Cole. Kali didn't care about anybody, but when it came to her younger brother, she'd walk through Hell Fire to save his life.
Cole glanced around at everybody in the room, feeling slightly awkward with so many eyes on him, before nodding.
Dustin grinned, patting the boy on the back.
Kali nodded and leaned back on the couch.
