"Violet?"

"Uh, actually ..." I clear my throat. I need to get better at this. "Actually, Zayn and I broke up."

Josh can hardly believe his ears. He pulls back, eyes wide. "What?"

I give a small smile. "Yeah ..."

"Wait, wait, wait." He holds out his hands. "You broke up in Brazil?"

I just acknowledge him with an eyebrow raise.

"Holy shit! When did it happen? Was it halfway, near the end? Shit, that would have made the rest of the trip awkward."

"Oh, no." I sit up straight. "No, no. He left."

Josh just looks at me, not even blinking. "You're joking me. You're joking, right?"

"I wish," I mumble.

"This doesn't make any sense." He shakes his head, totally baffled. "W-What happened?"

I sigh. I really didn't want to replay the event, but I knew I would have to, and to quite a few people. "I have no idea. He just broke up with me and packed his bags and left."

"No ..."

I just shrug.

"Violet, no way." He keeps on shaking his head, and I can literally see the gears turning in his mind as he struggles to process this information. I was just like him a few days ago. "Why would he do something like that? Oh, Vi. I'm so sorry. Are you okay?"

It was a strange question that I hadn't heard since that night, and I realised that I actually did not know. Was I okay? "I'm getting there," I answer honestly.

"This calls for a drink. What are you doing tonight?"

"I'm busy," I tell him. "I'm meeting Liam."

"Tomorrow night?"

"I think I could make that work."

"Great! I'm taking you out and you're going to forget all about that bastard, alright?"

I smile. I admired his efforts, but I knew no amount of anything would make me forget Zayn. "Alright."

"Alright." He stands up. "I've gotta run. You stay strong, okay? I want you to have a good day."

"Thanks, Josh."

"I'll see you later." He smiles warmly at me before walking off down and out the library.

I take a deep breath and go back to my reading.
