I stared at Liam, not believing what everything told me. He was my mate. Mine. But how? What about Bella?

But the tingling from his touch, the sparks that flew, the butterflies in my stomach told me he was my mate.

My thoughts were cut short by Derek's growling. "She's mine!" he growled.

Liam snarled at him, his claws digging into my waist. Strangely, that made me want to jump him even more.

"You're hurting her," Derek growled, seeing the slightly blood that was staining my shirt from Liam's claws.

"Stay away from her!" Liam snarled, pulling me away when Derek tried to take closer. "Mine!"

Knowing this was about to turn into a fight, I embraced my Alpha side. "Enough!" I yelled in my Alpha voice.

Derek and Liam stopped, looking at me in surprise.

I looked at the guards holding Brooke and Josh. "Release them. Now."

They did as they were told, and they backed away from them. Brooke looked impressed, and Josh looked surprised.

"Shift back," I ordered Josh, and he did so. "Good. Now, we're going to have a civilized discussion, and then we're going to leave peacefully. Understood?"

Everyone nodded, except for Derek. "You can't order me around."

"I can if I'm more powerful," I growled.

"This is my territory," Derek growled. "You're not the Alpha here!"

"No, but the Alpha here is pretty sucky, trying to force people to mate with him. That goes against the laws of the werewolves. I'm surprised no one has challenged you yet," I said.

"What are you doing?" Liam whispered in my ear.

"I got this," I whispered back.

"That's because I'm the most powerful Alpha ever." Derek's chest puffed out in pride.

I rolled my eyes. "Fine. Then I, Hayley Evans, daughter of Alpha Tristan Evans of Crescent Moon, challenge you, Alpha Derek Masters, to a fight."

"Hayley!" Brooke and Josh yelled.

"No!" Liam snarled, grabbing my waist and holding me to him protectively. "Are you crazy? He'll kill you!"

"I'll be fine," I said, kissing Liam.

"Relax, pup," Derek said, causing Liam to growl. "I'll go easy on her."

"That's some talk for someone who wasn't born into the Alpha bloodline," I said.

Like my dad, Derek married into the Alpha position. You can tell by the amount of power they have, and since I was able to overpower his orders with his own men, I could tell he married into the title.

"Let's do this," Derek said and shifted into a muddy brown wold streaked with gray.

I smiled. "Do your worst."

I shifted into my black wolf. My wolf was smaller than Derek's, since I was a girl, but that allowed me to be quicker and more agile. And with the blood of an Alpha running through my veins, I was significantly stronger than Derek.

He lunged at me, and I jumped to the side. I clawed at his back, and he yelped. He swiped his claws at me, and they narrowly missed my nose.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Liam about to shift. Brooke looked like it as well, but Josh controlled them both. Good boy.

I bit Derek's paw as it came towards me, and he hit me with the other paw as I bit into it. I fought back a yelp to not worry Liam, and I bit harder.

I yanked Derek to the ground and got on his back. I put my front paw on his throat, holding him down, and I shifted back into my human form, my clothes ripped and torn.

"I won't kill you," I said. "I'm not that kind of person. But your Beta will take over the pack and become Alpha. I doubt he'll be any worse than you."

I nodded once at the Beta, who smiled in thanks at me. I walked back to Brooke, and she hugged me tightly.

I heard a growl behind me and turned around just to see Derek lunge at me. Then Liam darted in front of me, caught Derek, threw him on the ground, and broke his neck, killing him.

"She may not be that kind of person," Liam growled, "but I am."

I looked at him in horror. I had never seen Liam break out in violence, let alone kill someone. This shocked me really badly.

Liam stepped towards me, holding out his arms, and I involuntarily shrank back. He gave me a confused look, then a sad one. "What's wrong?"

"N-nothing," I stammered.

"You killed him," Brooke said, looking at Liam in the same horror I was.

"It had to be done," Liam said. His eyes turned sad when he saw me. "I'm sorry. He was gonna attack Hayley. I had to."

I hugged him and realized we had to get out of here. "Let's go."

We hurried out of the house and got back to the hotel. We packed our stuff quickly, checked out, and got in the cars we came in.

We drove quickly, then slowed down, Liam and I in the lead.

"Where are we going?" Liam asked.

"Back home," I said. "I called Tyler and he said it's safe for us to come back."

"You called Tyler?!" Liam yelled, glaring at me.

"Oh relax, I didn't get together with him," I said. "He's moved on, we're staying friends since we're both going to be the Alphas of our pack. So don't get all jealous, we only just found out we're mates."

Liam sighed. "Bella rejected me. That's how this all happened."

I got a little sad. "Oh. So, it wasn't because you wanted to be with me?"

"Actually, yes. I tricked her into rejecting me to make sure I'd have a second mate."

I was surprised. "Why would you do that?"

"Because I'm in love with you."

My breath caught in my throat, barely audible to hear. For years I never dreamed Liam would say those words to me in a different matter than a friend loves a friend. And here he was, telling me he loved me.

"I've loved you for a long time now, I just never realized it. When Tyler kept chasing after you, I had this fear that you would leave me. I wouldn't be able to last without you. And when I found out Bella was my mate, the only thought I had was about you. Then you got mad, and I kept dating Bella. But even then I only wanted you. So, what I'm asking is, will you accept me?"

My heart did a backflip in my chest. Before he could say anything else, I unbuckled my seatbelt, crawled into his lap, and kissed him. He was surprised and barely managed to keep control of the car.

"Hayley, I need to focus on driving," he said, pulling away.

"Pull over," I said. "I already texted Brooke to keep driving home."

Liam pulled to the side of the road, and we were lucky we were in the middle of nowhere. I glued my mouth to his, and his hands traveled down to my waist.

He moved us to the backseat and continued kissing me. He kissed down the side of my neck and reached the area where my neck meets my shoulder.

"I love you," I said, and nodded, telling him to claim me.

He kisses the area gently, and his canines extended. He bit softly, then harder, sinking his canines into me.

I expected pain, not the pleasure that filled me. I let out a moan, and that's all it took for Liam to finish what he started before we got that call yesterday.
