This is the day I've been dreading but also anticipating.

Childrens court.

Since Flavia's recital, Lisa's seen the kids at least 5 times. Ethan doesn't like it, Flavia doesn't care as long as Ethan's there.

I still don't trust her. She's been undoubtedly quiet. No pop-ups. No suspicious activities.

I still have the guards Frankie sent and he's been slacking on giving me information, but I understand that he's doing more important stuff for Mat, his boss.

"This is a case between a mother who has tried her hardest to get her children back and a foster father who seems as though the mother is not fit but he is. There are evidence from both parties and we the court would like to go through them, starting with Ms. Del Campo," The judge says

Lisa's lawyer stands and walks towards the judge.

"Your honour. My client Lisa has been working hard to stay sober for the past 6 years. She's been in rehab for two years, working with certified professionals and even doing community services. Everyday Lisa cries because she can no longer see her children, because she knows that her children are in the hands of a dangerous man," The lawyer says

My eyebrows furrow at her accusation.

"Damien Carvelli is associated with the Latino-Italian Mafia. And has even brought the children around many great dangers," she goes on

I can feel my blood go cold but I don't let it show. If there's one thing anyone in my family knows how to do...

"I call Damien Carvelli up to the stand," The lawyer says

I stand and head towards the stand.

They make me swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth with my hand on a bible.

And immediately the questions start

"What's your affiliation with Mateo James Jr and Elena James?" she asks

"Mateo Jr is my cousin," I answer

"Blood cousin?" She questions

"Yes. His father is my father's uncle," I nod

"And how often do you and the kids see the James Family?" She goes on to ask

"Once or twice a year... Your honour this has nothing to do with the kids," I say

"Let her continue," The judge says

They picked the judge, probably paid her double too.

"Are you aware of any illegal activities that your cousin partakes in?"

"No. Where's your proof?" I ask

The lawyers eyes narrow at me but my expression doesn't falter.

"If there's not further questions. Shall we move on?" The judge cuts

The lawyer nods and I leave the stand going back to the table.

"They have no solid evidence. They're just picking at scraps and conspiracy's they found online," my lawyer whispers and I nod

He then gets up and stands in front of the judge.

"Your Honour, for 6 years Damien has loved and nourished Flavia, Ethan and many other kids in the system. Damien and his girlfriend are the only parents Ethan and Flavia know. Their words. Ethan, who is now 16, does not trust Lisa and has said it multiple times to not only me, Damien or his social worker but also his therapist.
