Ranboo made his way through the nether to Tommy's exile portal. He never could bring himself to go through, and he was sure Dream would hate him if he ever did.
I mean sure, Dream was technically his friend, watching him day to day, but Ranboo couldn't believe that. He wouldn't believe the man that exiled him was now taking care of him.
Yet, weak Ranboo couldn't do anything else. So he wrote notes, and he was going once again to check if Tommy had responded yet, not hopeful he did.
Ranboo opened the chest and took out the book, flipping the page, surprised to see writing. He scanned through it, carefully reading.
|Hey, Ranboo. Im doing just fine in exile without you guys. Dreams been the only one to visit for awhile. Tell Wilbur he should come back though. Talk later, Big Man Tommy.|
It was clear he wrote in in a rush, which only made Ranboo more skeptical. Especially with the sentence "Dream's been the only one to visit.". It was almost scary to think of what Dream could be doing, especially if Tommy was considering it fine with him. What Ranboo would imagine would be Dream mocking him.
So maybe Dream wrote this?
No, it couldn't be. Dream wouldnt be looking through Tommys stuff. Ranboo didn't look further into it, just putting on a smile and writing back.
|Hi again, Tommy. Are you sure your okay? Dream keeps saying things to Tubbo about you, and I just wanna check in. Again, I'm sorry I can't actually visit, but I will soon. I promise. Hope you are doing well, just remember I'm on your side. Your friend, Ranboo.|
He put a little smile at the end, long lines for eyes and a lopsided curve for the mouth. He made sure it looked nothing like Dreams, just in case.
He set it carefully back where it was, leaving the chest just slightly propped open so he would notice next time he went through.
Ranboo again looked up at the portal, debating whether to just step through, see what Dream was doing to the poor boy. It wouldn't be..bad if he did, would it?
After returning it, he left back to the main portal hub. He went to Tubbo, so he could tell him what happened.
--
Ranboo knocked on the boy's door, checking inside through the window to see if he could spot Tubbo.
No luck.
"Come in!" Tubbo yelled through his door, straightening out his posture so he didn't look so tired. He unfixed it, falling back on his bed when he saw Ranboo walk in.
"Hey man, what's up? How have you been?" He spoked softly, going to sit on the bed with the boy.
"Nothing, really. Just been waiting for someone to come in." Tubbo answered honestly, crossing his legs up on the bed. Ranboo put his hand down, leaning so he was on his level.
"Oh- do you..do you want me to go? I just had some..some news for you." Ranbo was ready to get up, not wanting to make Tubbo uncomfortable, esspecially if he didn't want to talk more about Tommy. He absolutely respected that.
"No, no, Ran stay. I hoped it would be you. What were you saying about news? Is it good?" Tubbo asked scooting closer and nudging him in the arm for thinking like that.
Ranboo should have known by now that they were friends.
"Yeah, it's fine if you don't want to but uhm..he responded to the note. I guess that's good." Tubbo perked his head up, taking a moment to process everything.
"Tommy? You-" he let out small laughs, happy that Tommy was at least well enough to talk. "What did he say? Is it..bad?" Tubbo leaned in, ready to listen.
"No, uhm..he said he's doing fine in exile..uh without- yeah, he wants Ghostbur to come visit him again, so maybe that's a start." Ranboo changed his kind about saying the "without you guys" part, worrying that would hurt Tubbo to much. He wanted to try his best to make everyone happy, even if that meant a few white lies.
"What? So you-" Tubbo was almost jumping on the bed, he seemed so happy.
Tommy and him really were good friends, then. Ranboo said to himself. He smiled a bit at it, glad to know he had someone before him.
Although that did mean it was all the much harder when they were pulled apart.
"So you think I could go visit him soon? Or..or maybe you should since you guys are talking- you could like.. ask? Or maybe just keep talking, then surprise him..he doesn't like surprises though. It's fine. I'm sure he'd be fine if it's you. I just..I can't wait to see him again, Ran. It feels like its been so- so long."
Ranboo smiled comfortingly, putting a hand out for Tubbo to take, which he gladly did. Tubbo squeezed it softly, Ranboo melting into the touch.
"I'll try, Tubbo. But for now, just don't worry about him, alright? I promise you we can get him back."
Tubbo flailed his arms and fell back onto the bed. He let out a sigh, still looking at Ranboo.
"Just..just stay for a bit man. Alright?"
"Alright."
--
Ranboo stayed the night with Tubbo once again, getting him all the things ne needed. He worried about the boy, and tried not to bring up anything about his work or the exile, afraid it might cause something with Tubbo he couldn't fix.
"Hey Ran, do you really think Tommy is alright? Like I know he said it, but..you know, it's what you were talking about earlier. Dream could be lying and..and hurting him. What if it isn't good? Oh my God..Tommy could be in such a bad place right now, and I couldn't help him. Did I do this? Did I-"
"Woah, woah, slow down."
Tubbo had brought this up by himself, after they were sitting in silence for awhile. Ranboo didn't have time to responded, reassure him.
"I don't..I mean, no I don't think Dream is a good dude. But hurting a kid? That'd..I don't know. I just don't feel like he is telling the truth, but I don't think he would go as far as to really hurt him. That's..you know Dream more than I do. Do you really think he would do that? Hasn't he been comforting you too? Helping you out? I mean, he did say Tommy could get out soon, so I think he's fine. We can talk about this after the visit, alright? For now we can..we can just see how he responds. If he really needs help, he'd get it. He's smart enough for that."
They both traded rambles about it, saying how they should know if Tommy's doing well by his letters, and if it's fake or if Dream was to do anything, they would find out.
Hours.
Hours they talked about this, despite Ranboo trying to avoid it originally.
Talking was a way for Tubbo to vent, cope, and Ranboo was alright with that as long as it was helping. And after, he really thought it did.
"Thank you, Ran. I can always trust you to say the right thing. I know you'll fix my mess. I'll repay you somehow."
"No need, Tubbo. I'm doing this for you."
"Goodnight."
"..'Night, Tubs."
