"So what's the deal with this girlfriend?" My brother was sitting across from me at the small cafe close by my work, "Do you like her?"
"I guess" I took a sip of my iced coffee that was in a glass cup since I accidentally told the barista my order was for here and not to go. He laughed as he sipped on his blended drink he always ordered, like the child he was.
"You took her to France, I mean that's pretty serious. Isn't she only twenty one too? She's going to fall pretty hard for you, if she hasn't already. You should be careful."
"I'll be fine, thanks for your concern" I knew being in a relationship would be exhausting, but the constant talk and advice people give me every day is a little over board. He rested his hand on his fist leaning forward on the table.
"What if she tells you that she loves you huh? What are you going to do then? Say it back because you know that is what she wants to hear? When you don't even mean it?"
I stood up from the wooden chair at the cafe, "As I said, thanks for the concern. I'm going back to work." I walked out the cafe, of course my brother followed behind me.
"Come on, I'm just asking a question. Why do you get so weird about this kind of shit? You act like you know everything" He walked next to me as we made our way back to my office building.
"It gives me a headache thinking about that, I should have never got myself into this position but for some reason I couldn't help myself and now you and Yuri have been up my ass about the same thing"
"Well maybe that's because we both know how you are when it comes to emotions"
"Meaning?"
"You're thirty years old and have never been in love, nor felt any type of connection towards a person before. You have lived with Yuri, who has been in love with you from the start and you never have shown the slightest feelings towards her even though she shows you constant affection. And if you ever felt some sort of love towards Yuri, you sure as hell would never realize it. You're clueless. I mean come on Ren, you are not exactly normal. And now you're involved with some college girl who according to Yuri, follows you around like a puppy who wants affection day in and day out, if anyone is going to get hurt in this relationship, it sure won't be you."
I stopped in front of the front door of my work building, the wind blowing my hair around and my noise starting to run, "I'll keep what you said in mind" I walked back inside.
Theo was always like that, butting into other people's business when he had nothing going on in his life. While I hate to admit it, what he said was not wrong. I would have said something back to him if I knew what to say. What pissed me off the most was him acting as if I am unaware of myself, unaware of the fact that someone has been in love with me for a whole decade and I have never done anything about it. It is not like I never wanted to, sometimes I thought about how it would be if Yuri and I did share those same romantic feelings. How out of all the people, it would make most sense to be with her. We both knew what we liked and disliked, our favorite foods, songs, shows, movies, books, sex positions. And we already know we can survive living together- dating her would not be the worst idea. But I have never felt the slightest emotion of love towards her, at least from what I think. But I am unsure if I know what love really is.
"You spacing out again?" Jo placed a file of papers on my desk, "Want coffee?"
"The shitty office coffee?"
Jo placed sat down on my couch, "I'll assume that is a no. I'm going to take a quick nap"
I stared at him in amazement, for an assistant he sure had some nerves just falling asleep on my office couch. A funny guy, he's pretty young too, twenty four years old. He gets all of his work done on time even though he complains a lot and is my only work friend, mainly because he is the only one not intimated by me.
"My boyfriend is the owner of xx nightclub, you should come" He looked over at me when he woke up, "It's a gay club so you'll fit right in" He laughed a little, "I'll text you the time we are going Saturday".
"I didn't even say I would go"
"You'll come."
