Monday came along, I put on my brown pants and a white button up with my brown coat, along with attempting to tie my blonde hair up in a bun, but failing multiple times. I tried putting on a little makeup, but ended hating how it looked so I washed it off. Then I put on my round thin silver seeing glasses, grabbed my brown bag, and headed out.
"Rice Cake! I made coffee." Yuri was sitting on the kitchen island while Ari was lying on the couch watching some cartoon show. Ari waved to me as I passed by, she was never a morning person, so she never talked much when I saw her before 11 am. - I wished Yuri was more like her.
"I'm late."
"But little rice cake-"
I left before I could hear anything else, then walked down to the subway station and waited for the train. Another crowded day in New York; people pushing other people in a hurry to get to work, the train overpacked, bumping into people who just end up cussing you out for no reason. I used to love the city, when I was in college it felt as if New York was in the palm of my hands. Taking the subway, getting in fights with strangers, not knowing what train you were on, walking throughout the crowds of people- it all used to be somewhat enjoyable.
I walked up to the side walk after getting off the subway, not paying attention to anyone or anything around me, which caused me to hit something, or rather someone. I did not know what hit me at that moment, I put my hand on my head and looked up. It was a girl, her eyes were hazel and her wavy brown hair laid in front of her chest.
I looked down, her hand was holding mine. I looked back up, she was saying something.
"Are you okay?" I quickly stood up. She said something again, "I'm so sorry, I was in a hurry."
As I looked up at her, I noticed the backpack she was carrying, "It's fine." I started to walk pass her, but before I could, she grabbed my wrist pulling me back towards her.
"Actually, do you know how I can get to the Grand Central Terminal?"
I checked my watch to see the time, I'm the boss of the publishing office I work at, so I guess I could walk her there.
"Yeah." I said as she followed a couple inches behind me.
I quickly texted my assistant notifying him that I would be late and to push back my morning meetings. It was only a couple blocks away, but I could feel her staring a hole in the back of my head as we were walking the entire time. I looked up at her, she was a couple inches taller than me and was wearing a dark blue shirt that was tucked into her macaroon cream colored shorts that she wore with a light brown belt.
"Are you a student?" I slowed down my walking pace as I asked this.
She smiled at me, "Yeah, just transferred to NYU." She had this way of talking that made her seem so naive and pure, "It's actually my last year." She looked at me, "So I'm not very familiar with the city." I smirked, "Oh" She said with a more serious tone, as if she thought I had just insulted her by smiling.
The smirk on my face quickly disappeared, "I went to NYU too."
"No kidding?" She seemed shocked, "Did you just graduate?"
"Yeah, like nine years ago" I said in a jokingly way.
"You look young though."
"I'm twenty nine." I actually just turned thirty, but I could not get me to say the words 'I'm thirty' out loud just yet. We arrived in front of the terminal a couple minutes after this conversation, "Well here we are."
I was about to turn around and probably just forget about this whole encounter, until the girl yelled, "Wait! You're just gonna leave?" She sounded a little disappointed, as if she was expecting something from me. I was a little confused.
