robin, adella, steve and dustin were on the roof of starcourt, looking down at the elevator where erica would, hopefully, be soon. holding the walkie-talkie to her lips, robin spoke, "erica, do you copy?"

"mhm. i copy. you nerds in position or what?" erica asked, in the back room of scoops ahoy.

"yeah, we're in position." robin replied. "it's all quiet here, so you've got the green light."

"green light, roger that. commence operation child endangerment." erica hummed making adella laugh.

"can we maybe not call it that?" robin requested with a roll of her eyes.

"see you on the other side. nerds." erica finished as she climbed into the vent, leaving robin to glance at adella who shrugged as steve bit his lip, doubting their plan would work.

"what's the worst that could happen?" adella mused.

"she dies at the hands of russians and we get blamed for it, placing us in prison." robin responded.

"...no need to be so gloomy." adella mumbled, looking back to the doors as robin chuckled.

after a while of silence and watching the unopened doors, erica's voice came through the walkie-talkie, "alright, nerds. i'm there."

"do you- do you see anything?" robin questioned.

"yeah, i see those boring boxes you're so excited about." erica answered.

"any guards?" robin asked.

"negative." erica replied.

"booby traps?" robin continued.

"if i could see them, they'd be pretty shit traps, wouldn't they?" erica shot back.

"thank you for that." robin snarked, annoyed at the child.

a pause sounded before they heard, "i'm in."

"oh, god." steve sighed, placing his face in his hands.

erica pressed the button and the doors open, the group seeing where standing there smugly. she placed a hand on her hip, "free ice cream... for. life."

"she didn't die, gloomy." adella grinned at robin before they all moved to go to the doors.

steve pulled a small pocket knife out and sliced through the tape on the top of one of the boxes, the doors now closed. he pulled the flaps of the box open and a smaller metal box was inside. steve grabbed the small handle on the top of it, twisting it. air hissed as he pulled the lid off, revealing four more handles.

"that's definitely not chinese food." steve muttered as they all looked inside. "uh, maybe you guys should, you know, stand back."

"no." dustin denied as the three girls stepped back.

"just... just step back, okay?" steve ordered, going to chive dustin back a few steps.

"no."

"step back. seriously."

"no! no!" dustin raised his voice. "if you die, i die."

steve stared at him before shrugging, "okay."

steve twisted one of the handled and pulled out a capsule that was full of green liquid, "what the hell?"

"what is that?" robin asked.

"it looks like the green ghost thing from ghostbusters was made into a goo." adella hummed.

a sudden rumbling sounded around them and dustin looked up, "was that just me, or did the room move?"

"booby traps." erica whispered.

the room whirred again and robin grabbed the capsule from steve's hand, "you know what? let's just grab that and go."

adella moved over to the button pad and started to press open door. it didn't open as she slammed her fingers down onto it so dustin moved beside her and started to press it harder.

"which one do i press, erica?" dustin questioned.

"just press the damn button, nerd!" erica snapped.

"which one? i'm pressing the button, okay?" dustin retorted.

"press open door!" erica yelled.

"i'm pressing open door!" dustin shot back.

"just open the- press the other button." steve joined his side.

"out of the way so she can push the button-" robin was cut off by more yelling from dustin and steve.

"would you stop?"

"i'm trying."

"would you let me just do it? would you stop?!"

"just open the door!" robin and adella instructed.

a loud clang was heard and a second horizontal door closed over the metal doors, confusing them. the room jolted and erica and robin started to scream loudly. steve looked at the corner and saw levels of light passing and adella could feel her stomach flipping as they went down, the feeling which had been described to her as going on a roller coaster, which she'd never experienced in real life.

"oh, shit." steve mumbled to himself as robin's hand clutched onto adella's for dear life.

"oh, my god!" robin yelled, her other hand grabbing onto adella's arm, the cuban woman gripping onto her waist as they leant on some boxes.
