The heels clicked on the ground as Dr Paige entered the room to inspect the two cocoons. Followed by Jack, who had been sent away for the time being, she knocked on the hard surface.
Across either cocoon ran blue and silver lines that shimmers and threw sparks upon touch. Solid, dark and heavy, the cocoon rested on the tables. No matter how much the soldiers tried to move them, or crack them open, the cocoon remained stable, whole, and in their place.
"I want another experiment" Dr Paige stated, her heels clicking on the floor as she walked around the cocoons and inspected the tanks from which the fluids came. "Find me two more children and redo the entire thing. I want to know, if the girl caused this or the experiment"
"Yes, ma'am" The soldiers followed Dr Wilson out of the room and on a higher level grabbed two more children that Dr Wilson claimed to have the same power. A girl with dark hair, curls, and blue eyes, and another girl, tall and thin, the short blond hair standing off like spikes.
In a separates room, the nurses prepared the tables and Dr Wilson brewed another concoction for the tanks in the same manner he had done for Lucy and Aris, but nothing out of the ordinary happened until they reached the third round of the experiment.
The girl with dark hair screamed out, although sedated and her eyes turned so dark, they might have vanished all together inside her head. The colour drained from her face and for almost an entire minute, she lay so still Dr Wilson thought her dead.
The blonde girl on the other hand reacted the way Dr Wilson had expected. She responded mentally, her EEG showing the parts of her brain in reaction to the fluids, but after the final round of experiments, the response time grew by a lot until the lights on the EEG stopped and Dr Wilson had to declare her brain dead.
He reported all of it to Dr Paige, who demanded another round, while simultaneously watching the cocoons in the hope that the children would emerge. Pacing through her office, she kept an eye on the monitor.
In the room with the cocoons, Jack sat beside the tables and talked, not loud, but with the help of a programme, Dr Paige could read his lips. He talked to Lucy, asking her to respond or at least show him a sign, but nothing other than the bright light on the cocoon told him that she was still inside and maybe even alive. Intrigued, Dr Paige continued watching as Jack closed his eyes and used all his strength to crush the cocoon, but it withstood the force of his hits and only grew brighter with every strike.
At last, Dr Paige had to cover her eyes from the bright light that filled the room and when it died out, Jack had vanished.
With two soldiers by her side, Dr Paige stormed into the room and had them search every corner, but no sign of Jack led them to his location. The guards swore he had not passed them and thus must still remain I the room.
A grin rose on Dr Paige's face as she leant closer to the cocoon that had been marked as Lucy's. "Maybe this is a great opportunity" she announced, exiting the room.
