Prologue

March 11, 2050

It took a little time for me to react. An enormous machine was in front of me. My eyes widened, while Mr. Finch, the machine's creator, just stared at me.

"So, what do you think?" he finally asked. I couldn't believe he actually made it. Two years ago, he told me he was going to make a change, but I just didn't believe him.

"It's awesome!" I exclaimed. There was a huge smile on my face now. It was still hard for me to believe what my eyes were watching. The machine that would change my life, and everyone else's life, forever.

"I told you I was going to make it, Grace." Mr. Finch said smirking.

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's see if it works!" I exclaimed happily. Mr. Finch just smiled again. He took out a little watch and handed it to me. I examined it carefully. It was a golden watch with a little heart drawn on it. I opened the watch, and smiled as I saw a little note inside.

Never let anyone tell you how to live your life. Not even King Atticus. Be strong enough to defend yourself. Take care of your siblings, and never let anyone hurt them. Have a long and happy life. -Mr. Finch.

A couple of tears streamed down my face as I realized he was not going with me. I was going to start this little journey alone. Mr. Finch just gave me a sympathetic look, he knew I didn't want to go alone.

"I'm really sorry." He said simply. His eyes turned to see the ground. "I'm too old for this kind of journeys. Plus, I will have to give an excuse for your sudden disappearance."

"It's okay." I said. I wiped out my tears and put a fake smile on my face. Mr. Finch's eyes looked as if he was going to cry, too, but he wanted to seem strong so he held it in.

"Now, how does this thing work?" I asked smiling. Mr. Finch just smirked.

"Let me tell you how it works."
