The oven beeped,
"It's ready! Cole and Logan, please set the table," Mrs. Smith said, walking towards the heavenly smelling kitchen. Cole and Logan set the table. Logan seemed nice, Cole seemed quiet, but I'll be able to tell clearer at dinner. We all sat down and she set the food at the table, and we all dug in, ravenous. It was delicious, and that was an understatement. At least they have good food.
"So Mary, do you have interests?" Daddy asked. Oh no, spotlight on me tonight! Noooo!
"Reading, and art," I mumbled, not in the mood to talk. Not that I was being an ungrateful brat, I just don't like new people.
"Say that again honey, I couldn't quite hear you," mum said, the Cole, sitting next to me, cut in.
"She said art and reading," Cole repeated.
"Oh, that's great honey! John actually used to be an English professor at UVA," mum said, and I thought that was cool. Now I have help with English homework.
"Yup, I was one for six years. Good times," he chuckled.
"So Cole how was your day?" Mum asked Cole.
"It's was... decent. School will be school I guess. Just another project, nothing very thrilling," he smhid sarcastically.
"How about you, Logan?"
"Umm... Well... I got another detention... but yeah, my day was boring," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. So, he's nervous, and a troublemaker. Interesting. So, Cole the quiet and good one, and Logan, the troublemaker.
"Another detention? Logan, how many times do we have to tell you to stay out of trouble?" Daddy said in a very serious tone.
"You can do better than that, Logan. For the next week, you are grounded. Everyday, there will be a long list of chores for you too keep busy," Mum said in a disappointed tone. By then, everyone was done eating.
"Logan, you are doing dishes tonight," mum said, and Logan rolled his eyes and flicked her off behind her back. Wow. That was... unnecessary. Should I tell her? Nah... he'll hate me, and eventually karma will get back at him. I think Cole saw it too because we both shared that unspoken communication glance.
"C'mon sweetie, I'll show you your room," mum smiled, and I followed her. I gaped at this room, even though it's small, it fits my personality perfectly. (Picture of room above) In the door with the small stairs under it was the walk in closet and bathroom, both were nicely sized.
"Thank you, I love it," I said, looking around.
"No problem honey! I'll give you some time to settle down, everything you need is in the bathroom and closer. If you need anything, let me know," she smiles, and I nodded, her walking out.
I walked into the closet and picked out grey and white striped pajama pants, with a grey and white quarter sleeve shirt, with ugg slippers. I then went into the bathroom, wiped my foundation, concealer, blush, mascara, and eyeliner away, then settled into bed. Does she like step in to say goodnight? Or do I just fall asleep? Someone knocked on my door, then walked in. Cole.
"Hey," he said, setting next to me on the bed, and hugged me. I gave him a small smile in return.
"Mum and dad will be in in a minute to say goodnight. I never really got to welcome you, so here I am. Anyway, goodnight lil' sis. Love you," he said, giving me a cheeky smile which made me giggle.
Just then, mum and daddy walked in.
"Saying goodnight Cole?" Daddy asked him, and he nodded.
"I have to go. Goodnight," he smiled, then walked out.
I got under my covers, and Mum and daddy walked towards me, sitting on the bed.
"If you ever need anything, or to talk to us, let us know, okay?" Mum asked, and I nodded, the floor becoming interesting.
"And we thought tonight we would tell you some rules," daddy smiled warmly, and I nodded again.
"So... the first one is do what you're told to when we tell you. Second, understand if you misbehave punishments will be given, but I doubt you'll act up. Third is family and school comes first. Getting good grades as well as being a good sister are very important. And the final one is ask for something if you need it," daddy said, his eyes looking into mine, to make sure I understood.
"And never be scared to ask questions, especially with us. And at the moment we realize you are fragile and mourning right now. We know we will never be able to replace your parents, but we still love and care about you," Mum said, and I could tell she meant it. At the mention of my parents, a tear slid down my eye. Then another, until I was fully crying.
"Shh, it's okay sweetheart," mum whispered, pulling me close to her chest and rocking me.
I looked over at daddy, who was sympathetically looking at me, and rubbing my hand. I cried for at least an hour, then eventually calmed it down to whimpers and silent tears. After I fully calmed down, I was exhausted. Dad turned off the light and mum laid me under my covers, then I fell into a dark slumber.
