I blew the blonde hair that hung down in my face as I sat against the door of a car outside, I looked around when my sister Layla finally came back from another car next to the one I sat against. " took you long enough " I spoke as she shook her head.
" we have enough gas to last us a day or two " she held a red gas jug down to her side as she opened the door before placing it onto the ground in the passenger seat side, " Oakley? " I questioned before she gulped a bit holding her tears back.
" I have no idea " she picked up her backpack and threw it over her shoulder as I did the same to the backpack that laid right next to me, we were able to get some supplies to last us a night. I took my knife out of my pocket when one of those things came right for me, " not looking so good sweetheart " I spoke to the female that was growling at me.
I stabbed the top of her head before her body fell down onto the side of the ditch, " stop flirting with zombies " Layla scoffed before opening the car door and hopping into it, " what it's fun " I chuckled before hopping into the passenger seat.
I stared out the window for a good while of the drive watching as the school slowly faded away from existence, I stared at the groups of zombies that ran around near by and hung out in groups. " it's the end of the world isn't it? " I turned my head over when Layla nibbled at her bottom lip, " who knows " she spoke softly before turning down a street.
We needed to find somewhere to go or else we would be dead meat without any shelter before we could go to a refugee camp at all, " there " I pointed out to a cabin not to far away in the woods above the street, " perfect " Layla smiled over before driving up the road and towards the cabin that sat on top of the hill in the woods.
Just as she parked she looked at me and nodded we decided to leave the gas jugs inside of the car as Layla took the keys out so nobody could steal it, it was the only good car we have gotten so far and it would suck to lose it so early.
I grabbed my backpack as I hopped out of the vehicle just as Layla walked around the car, " be careful " she spoke to me as I nodded at her slightly. I took my knife out and headed up the steps with her shortly behind me, " clear them out one by one " I said as I raddled the door handled before it actually opened.
I peeked my head in before fully walking in as Layla went a different way through the house their wasn't any zombies yet inside until I walked into the kitchen to a zombie that had jumped at me from the counter. " shit! " I called out as I kicked the zombie back with my foot which caused myself to tumble onto the ground.
My knife had fallen to the side of me as the zombie climbed on top of me and was growling in my face as I held its neck back away from me, I glanced over as I gritted my teeth before reaching as far as I could over to my knife. I finally felt the handle on the tip of my fingers as I was able to wrap my hand around it.
I looked back at the zombie with a smirk, " adios amigo " I said before stabbing it into the side of its head, I kicked the zombie off of me and was panting from being out of breath. They were much more stronger then I thought.
" are you okay? " Layla sprinted over quickly from around the corner, " yeah I'm fine " I slowly stood up fully, would have been a lot easier if she helped me out but oh well. At least I'm not dead yet that's the good thing.
She quickly pulled me in for a hug and I held onto her a little confused to why she was hugging me, " what was that about? " I backed away a little bit more confused. " I already lost Oak I can't lose you to " she spoke softly and formed a little bit of a smile on my face.
