We eventually pulled to a stop, the van shuddered as the engine was turned off. I opened the back doors, we were on a country road. I shook Brendens shoulder, waking him up. I grabbed the shovel out of the weapon bag and jumped out of the van. I looked around, we were surrounded by miles of fields. I headed to my right, toward the front of the field by the fence was an apple tree, it cast a shadow onto the grass below. I chucked the shovel over the fence before climbing over. I picked up the shovel and headed over to the tree.
I dug my shovel into the ground, slamming my foot down on the top, digging it deep into the ground. I brought the shovel back out, chucking the soil to my right.
"Michonne we ain't got time for that!" I heard Mike say, loud but not too loud to attract any biters.
"We wouldn't need time for this if it weren't for you!" I shouted back at him at the top of my lungs, the anger still seethed through me. I continued digging, not even turning to look back at him.
"Man give her some time" I heard Terry said, and they walked away from the fence.
Brenden climbed over the fence, joining me by my side. He held another shovel and he started digging.
"Andres sat in the front, I told him we were digging for treasure" Brenden said.
"I'm surprised he didn't beg to join us" I said.
"He's tired as hell, could barely keep his eyes open" Brenden said.
"Good" I sighed.Sweat ran down my brow, I sat back on my knees. Brenden let out a tired sigh, before sitting next to me. We had finished digging the hole, luckly without anymore interruptions from Mike and Terry. I stood up, having caught my breath. I swiped at the tree with my katana, and a branch fell from the tree. I took the thickest part of the branch, cutting it into 2 parts.
"What are you doing?" Brenden questioned.
"Got any string?" I asked him. He fumbled about in his pockets before pulling out a long piece of string and handing it to me. I lay the sticks of the floor in the shape of a cross. I wrapped the string around the middle before tying a knot, to hold it firmly in place.
"You want me to go get her?" Brenden asked.
"It's fine.. I got her. I owe her this" I said, I headed back towards the fence and to the van. I peered into the front, Andre lay along the seats, fast asleep. Whilst Mike and Terry sat onto of the car, opposite the van on lookout.
I headed to the back of the van, Amelia was still wrapped in the blanket, I got into the van, sitting next to her, I pulled back the blanket, looking at her young beautiful face for the last time, I tucked her long hair behind her ears before kissing her cheek.
I recovered her face, before picking her up, I held her in my arms as I got out the van and headed back towards the fence. Brenden stood on the other side, ready to help me pass her over. He took her in his arms whilst I climbed over.
"May I?" He asked me. I nodded, I don't think I could bear it. He headed over the grave and he gently lowered her into the hole. Before stepping back, standing next to me.
"I.. I thought I owed her this." I heard Terry say as he approached us from behind, he stepped forward, lowering a small bunch of flowers on top of her body.
"Thank you" I said to him. He nodded, heading back towards the fence. Mike sat on the car, overlooking the whole thing, yet he didn't care. Not even phased by the recent events.
Once Terry had made it back to the car, I sat down by Amelia's grave.
"I'm sorry I let you down. I really am. I hope you find your mother and father. It's a much better place up there. Goodbye Amelia" I said softly, as tears began rolling down my cheeks once again.
Brenden began to shovel the soil on top of her body, and I watched as the dirt built up until the blanket was completly covered. I joined Brenden, slowly lowering the dirt into the hole.
Once it was filled, I pushed the cross into the dirt on top of her grave. I took my bandana from hair and tied it around the cross.
"I'll never forget you" I whispered.
